Some Weird Stuff

Last night, after getting home, I watched the season finale of The Wheel of Time streaming series on Prime. I will state again, this is not the books. If you are hoping for a faithful adaptation of the books, this is not that. Run away. Do not watch this. It is not that at all. It is its own thing. In this episode they killed off another character – one who had a long story line that intersected with a lot of other characters during the book series. And those are all gone now. She is really dead. I think they decapitated her. I have no idea where the show will go from here. The whole point of the books, I thought, was to see the Light (the good guys) go through lots of crap to become strong enough to fight the Dark in the Last Battle. From what the series is doing, there won’t be enough time to see that development. I am not amused. Will I still watch it? Sure, why not? I mean, so what if it is horrible. It is still a fantasy series that is being done fairly well. Just not really anything to do with the books except for a few names and a part of the lore. Sigh.

So, yes, last night, we trivialized again. It was a big group! Four people who aren’t regularly with us came. I think they each came up with an answer that no one else had. Fun night. I might have had a tad too much to drink, but it all ended ok. We didn’t place, which is sad. I think we did ok – except that we didn’t get the baffler quickly enough. One of the best teams got it the first round. I think we got it on the fourth round. Maybe got four points. That ten points really makes a huge difference, I think. We also had pretzels. Yay pretzels! If I already talked about trivia last night, well, now I did it twice…

The sky the other day

Looks like I am sort of jumping around my life’s time line. And now we are going to talk about dashing.

It was a two dash day. The first dash followed in the footsteps of most of the rest of the dashes this week. Not enough money for too much driving. At least I didn’t have to decline any offers, which is always a good thing in my book. I was tempted to cancel on a couple of rides since I was getting such crap dashes. But I didn’t. I just took what the algorithm gave me. And suffered on.

My second dash was actually decent. I made more money than miles driven! Woo hoo! Still not a great dash, but certainly ok. Almost made up for all the bad dashes I have had this past week. (Not in terms of money, but in terms of driving vs. $$)

And that was more about yesterday.

I played a lot today. Which is a good thing. One of the things I like about old style RPGs like this one, is that you can save and go back to a point where things weren’t terrible. Yes, you may have to play through the tough bit again, but at least you have a sense of what will be needed from you in order to accomplish the goals. And not have your squad dying. I’m tempted to make a character that has high lockpicking skills and not much else going on. That skill seems inordinately important in these games.

I also neatened up the kitchen. Wiped a lot of counters and my wonderful middle table island thingie (thank you PvK). I did dishes, and caught up on glassware. I had accumulated a lot of dirty pint glasses. And lastly, I took the time to debone the duck! Woo hoo!!

Which means, I will be having duck for dinner tonight. I think I will fry one leg, and some of the skin. And warm up a few pieces of meat. And have more pasta with alfredo sauce. And a salad. And my last piece of store bought garlic cheese toast. Sounds like a good meal to me!

Door Dash is Dangerous!!

Owie from a Lowes order!

Either the algorithm hates me or the universe does. My first dash was totally terrible. Ok, not totally, but close enough. 85 miles for $60. That is bad. And to start, I got a double whammy bad ride. $11 to Seneca Falls, from Lowes! I hate picking up at Lowes. No sense of urgency there, ever. This time I had to pick up a really heavy container of something – I’m sure it is heavier than the 25lbs we are supposed to carry. And I wounded myself (as you can see). Which is worse. And of course, no tip. I don’t understand why no one tips on a Lowes order. And I would prefer not to dash in Seneca Falls and Waterloo. So, a double whammy.

My next ride was a lot of money (but not enough for the distance) from Dunkin in Seneca Falls to Clyde NY. I don’t think I have been to Clyde more than maybe 3 times in my life. Sigh. Driving, driving, driving. I only did 6 drives – 85 miles and $60. Grrrr.

I spoke to a new to me dasher who said she had just been fired from Lowes and was now doing Door Dash. Grrr. She also said that she had not been able to do a Lowes order because the items didn’t fit in her vehicle. Weird.

During my lunch break, I played a little after eating my leftovers from last night.

I also tried to get someone to fix the problem that he created. And he was (and is) being a bit dense about it. As long as he does the work and not me, I am ok with whatever he does. But once he is finished, I will ask for a sit down, face to face chat so I can explain to him how an archived master list is supposed to work. Super sized sigh.

My awesome sister and brother-in-law put together a package of presents for me for my birthday. I haven’t opened them all yet, but the thought is what counts and is what is most appreciated.

My second dash was better in some ways than the first. A lot less driving. Also, less money. Those don’t necessarily go hand in hand. But yes, they often do. At least I made the basic, which is good enough for a Monday! I even got some reading accomplished. I need to drill through that book this weekend. I wonder where I am on my hold for Dungeon Crawler Carl. (Still at 5)

Now I am home and I am going to do some chilling. I am almost done with The Rookie. The seventh season was only half a season of regular TV. I am going to miss some of the characters – Angela Lopez especially. Or maybe it is the actress who portrayed her that I will miss. In any case, I guess I will need to pick something else to watch next. Something low stress. Hmm. Ted Lasso perhaps? No! I have already seen it at least three times.

I’ve pretty much decided that after the Wheel of Time show on Prime ends (whether it ends with this season or goes on for all 8) I will re-read all the Wheel of Time books. There is so much depth in the books that just isn’t being represented in the TV show – I am sure it’s mostly budgetary. Still, as I have said before, this is a version of the books that mostly just keeps some of the basic ideas around and not much else. I could have done better than Rafe in writing 8 seasons of 1 hour shows that did a better job telling the story. Whatever. Life is that way sometimes…

Little Accomplishments

One of my favorite things in life is accomplishing the little things in a timely fashion. There is so much maintenance that has to be done in modern life. Sigh. Anyway, Sunday night I managed to get the trash all put out for collection. Mom doesn’t know what the difference between recycling and rubbish is anymore. Oh well. I think when I first moved in to help mom, she actually helped me a little with the trash. Not so much anymore.

I am listening to the Wheel of Time (WOT) books on Audio again. There are fourteen (or fifteen? or sixteen?) books. 20+ disks for each book. That is a lot of listening. There are so many great scenes in the books. I keep imagining doing an animated series based on the books, but haven’t gotten anywhere with it. Probably won’t. One of those “Gee wouldn’t it be nice…” sorts of ideas.

The cole slaw turned out pretty well. Mom likes it, which is the biggest thing. I am debating what to do with the left over chicken that we have. Maybe croquettes, though they seem like a lot of work and it is doubtful that mom will eat them. Though anything is possibly, I guess. It used to be that I could feed her a couple meals with lump chicken and sauce (plus extras) and she would eat the chicken just fine. Not so much anymore. At least, though, she is still eating and still remembers how to eat. Yippee for small blessings.

Ok, probably obsessed (is there a difference? I think so…). And I will survive. About what am I obsessed you may ask. Good question. Social Media. Yes, I spend a decent amount of time on Facebook. I am going to look and see if I can find an app usage tracker for my mac to see how much time I spend on there. Hmm, I wonder if it will be able to tell what page I am looking at in my browser. Or just give me browser time. And I need one for my iPhone as well. I bet I spend 60 hours a day on Instagram and Snapchat. I don’t post a lot to either of them, but I do ogle lots of stuff on both. Twitter just has never appealed for some reason.

I think Android has an app that observes app usage and then puts frequently used apps together in one place. I am too lazy to do it manually, but I ought to. I am sure I am wasting lots of precious viewing seconds changing between apps. Sigh. Don’t like to waste time. Ok, I’m lying, I really don’t mind. No time is ever really wasted. I mean, time just passes and there isn’t a lot we can do about it (except change our perception of time…). I will say, though, that this week has been going glacially.

Ooh, mom has a doctor’s appointment today. I am going to ask him about mom’s complaining about being in pain and about nursing homes in the area. As I think I may have mentioned, I think mom is too far along for assisted living. Or maybe not. Who knows? And goodness knows I am not ready to think about next steps. Just thinking about mom not being able to swallow (which could happen one day with this oh so lovely disease) makes me choke up for a second.

Started listening to the Wheel of Time series on Audiobook again. And will do so until someone suggests a good book that I can find on audio. I tried to find War and Peace on audio and didn’t succeed at my local library. Yup, I have never read War and Peace. Sue me.
