Look Mom, I Shoveled!

Well, that’s, er, interesting. I wasn’t able to sleep, despite the late hour and the hard living, so I decided to put on some music. I don’t listen to music nearly as much as I did when I was younger. Back in the day, when I got to a new space, I had to set up my music first. At first, that meant a stereo with records. Then I added cassettes. And even reel-to-reel. Eventually it became CDs. And now, everything seems to be streaming. Anyway, I played one of my go to favorite albums, Wish You Were Here, by Pink Floyd. I have listened to it frequently. And this time, I realized that there were actually two copies of the album in my library somehow. That’s frustrating. There doesn’t seem to be an easy fix for this. Grrr.

One thing keeping me awake is of course the car accident. Reliving the accident of course is never pleasant. And then all the other stuff that is added on top of that this time. Two tickets aren’t making me happy. Not only the cost, but just the whole pain in the butt of either pleading guilty through the mail or going in person to the court house. Neither option seems optimal. And I have to report something to the DMV. And then there is the uncertainty of what I will be doing about a vehicle for the very near future. Yay, lots of thoughts to skitter around in my noggin.

In any case, when I get up tomorrow it will be another day. And it looks like the worst of the big bad winter storm is over for my part of the state. We got what looks like about 6-8 inches. Though my phone seems to think we got 19 inches. I wonder if my boarder will shovel. Hahahahaha. Anyway, since it will be a business day, I can start dealing with the next phase of the whole car accident crap.

And now I am up. I had a long call with the insurance company. We kept talking over each other. Maybe there was some sort of recording delay. I also gave a detailed description of the accident. At least such as I recall. They do not pay for rental cars, as that coverage was not part of my insurance package apparently. The person I spoke with said that he would take care of getting the car to Northside and to sending Northside the “ok to estimate” documentation. We shall see what happens. As I told the guy, I don’t really need to be anywhere until Friday at this point. And it is only Monday. I could use a nap.

I checked the status of the claim and…no new tow order has been put into the system. Grrr.

One of the nice things about the weather being so cold is that the snow has stayed fluffy. We got about 6-8″ from what I can tell. I went out to shovel and the shovel was missing. Could someone have stolen it? I went outside to look to see what I was dealing with in terms of snow, and there was the snow shovel, leaning up against the back of my boarder’s car. She is not so good at putting things away. I wonder why that is. Not that I am the best at it, but I am better than she is. I shoveled a path from the sidewalk to my front door steps. And I broke the ridge that might have stopped her from backing her car out this morning. I shouldn’t be shoveling though at my ripe old age…and my snowblower is broken…

A shovel’s width is all I am willing to do.

In adding legible captions to the Alice film, I have come upon a debatable issue. Do I edit out mistakes and egregious burns? Or do I leave it as is as a historical document as to what I actually turned in to my senior study advisor? I am leaning towards the former. The latter exists on numerous DVDs around the country as I gave them out as Christmas presents years ago.

And I did it. I edited out a few frames. So far…

More on the accident. Isn’t this exciting? So, the Tesla app tells me where my car is. And it is still in Seneca Falls. I downloaded the State Farm app and checked the status and I didn’t see a new tow request on there. I called Caleb and didn’t get him. I got someone else. She discovered that a tow had been dispatched at 12:13 and was supposed to get to the car place in Seneca Falls at 2:13. I called at 3:45 and the tow truck had still not picked up the car. This is frustrating. Life is that way sometimes. Gives me time to work on other stuff. I will check the apps (State Farm and Tesla) in the morning and see what is what. Oh, and the reason that the app didn’t show an update is because some system is down at State Farm so they requested the tow in some other way. Sigh. Yay technology?

Ok, time to dine. I am having one of my homemade frozen empanada like things. I’m debating whether or not I am going to make rice to go with it. Probably won’t…

Augustus for President: I am putting myself out there again by telling my high school class notes author that I am running for President. And I gave him my website. I wonder if that is going to make the notes page. Doubtful. But that’s ok. If you couldn’t tell, my political work is basically on hold until I figure out what is happening with the car. Sigh.

I woke up this morning, after dreaming about a restaurant that I liked not remaking a to-go food order that someone else took – that seemed wrong to me. I think they were about to remake it, finally, when I woke up. But, I woke up and checked my email and found a reminder from my bank that I had asked to set up an external transfer account and to finish up the verification process. I logged on and tried and tried to figure out how to verify the account and failed. There was a bit of instruction on one of the pages that said that I needed to verify the account – but no link or instructions on how to do that. So I called them. Luckily the credit union is open on Saturdays until 1. I got someone on the line and she too had to search around to find where one went to verify an account. She found it! (I hadn’t.) Under preferences. Who would have looked under preferences? I suggested they add a link or instructions of something telling people precisely how to finish up verifying their external account. All happy now. The person also said they would pass along the suggestions. I am master of UI!

Let’s screw! I found the electric drill, right where I left it. And the battery was dead. Who didn’t think to charge it last night? Sigh. So, I’ll check back in a few hours and see if there is enough charge to drill a pilot hole to allow the screwing to begin.

And it’s done! So excited!!

I screwed the wall! After I first drilled it a bit. I think this will be a good thing. As long as no one very strong decides to try to close the screen door without unhooking it first. It could happen. Yes, I am filled with irrational fears. Isn’t everyone? You tell me yours, I’ll tell you mine. Though I might have mentioned them elsewhere.

There was a good flight price to Paris but I didn’t buy it ($490 round trip from Rochester). I am not sure why. I guess I am not sure when I am interested in traveling. Part of my is not excited about my next trip, because it is to places I have been before. True, I would be seeing relatives, but…

It has been an extremely lazy day. Mostly reading and playing. I did eat a little – a bagel for lunch – half got cream cheese, half got peanut butter and jelly. Tonight, leftovers – mac and cheese and a maple link or two and a salad. Oh! My boarder has gotten something called “Noodles in a box – stir fry.” I will have to ask her where she is purchasing it because I didn’t see it in the Wegman’s app or on the Walmart website.

We are supposed to be getting some snow tonight. And more tomorrow I think. (Just hoping that Syracuse does not get snow on Monday night when I am supposed to be picking SM up from the train station.) This winter is being much more wintery than the last couple have been. Still nothing that has required snow-blowing (which is good since my snowblower died a few years ago – I think it just needs a new belt, but I have don’t nothing to explore that…If I do need a snowblower, I am getting a battery operated one because the corded one is for the birds! Or the junk yard.).

MLK Holiday

Hey, don’t blame me, blame the government for making today a holiday. Oh, and the weather turned bitterly cold. Again. And the roads aren’t in perfect condition. And I just don’t wanna go dash today. So, I am not doing it. Just staying home. I hope to tackle the rest of the bedroom tonight – clean up the computer area and do some actual vacuuming. I even got a vacuum into the room in anticipation of that exciting event. It’s early times yet.

And I have a plan for dinner. I don’t think I have any leftovers to speak of. My boarder has the fridge filled with stuff, so I guess I will do an inventory of that as well at some point. I have till 5 when she is supposed to return.

One of the things I like about the Apple Universe is that when I make a reminder on any of my devices, all my devices know about it. I go on my laptop and work through them – because some of them are computer based items. Like today I wanted to look at my iCloud folder since it was apparently getting full. There is a lot of crap there and I will, someday, clean it all out. Today I just removed a couple of big things from it. Woo hoo. Next up was connecting my airpods to my TV. Yes, my new TV has bluetooth. But my airpods didn’t have a set up button. Silly of me to not realize that I could tap on the front of the case to turn on pairing. Sigh. But I did it. Now, how to change the output from the TV…I figure it is nice of me, if I want to listen to something fairly loudly, to be able to do it through my airpods, to allow my boarders/guests to not have to hear it.

I’ve gotten the floor vacuumed in my bedroom. And cleaned up one of my two desks. Still a couple of things to do before my boarder returns. And then, I am again, chickening out of going to hang out someplace before getting food. I am going to get food from Los Amigos downtown and toyed with the idea of going to get a beer someplace before hand…but, (imaging chicken sounds)

Two more little missions accomplished. I neatened up the computer/desk area a teeny bit. I still have a bag and a box to go through. Maybe I will sort those this evening while I watch things that are not keeping my interest. And I looked in the fridge. I don’t have any leftovers in there! Woo hoo! I do have a bunch of lettuce I should eat…

The kitchen sink is empty again. That’s a good thing.

Tonight, I am having Mexican food as I had mentioned earlier. I opted for chimichangas, chicken. Not as much food as when I order the house fajitas. We’ll see what happens next time I go there. I must admit that their chips are better than the ones at Monterey Mexican in the plaza.

Pretty tasty! More deeply fried would be cool by me…

And there we have it. Surprisingly late blog for a holiday post!
