Sorry for the low picture quality. I was across the road. And since this wasn’t a chicken, I knew that it wasn’t about to cross it. I was delivering in the countryside and heard “gobble, gobble, gobble.” It is a very distinctive sound. I knew at once that there was a turkey in them thar hills. I turned around and there it was. Standing in the sunshine with all its feathers fluffed! So cool! And so tasty…

It was a weird day. I had to get up early to help AD (I don’t know his last name, but the D is appropriate since his real name begins with that) escape from the nursing home so he could run some errands and do some other things. Yay rising early. (Ok, not a fan) He wasn’t quite ready when I got there, having called me at 8:34 to ask me what time I was coming over. (We had agreed on 9 am) Sigh. But we managed to get him in the car and off on his errands. Which he ran by himself. I only had to drop him at his car and pick him up (later in the day – time TBD)
First dash was not great. Under water again. I don’t like that. I am hoping I will have a day where that isn’t the case soon. The last one I had was many shifts ago. Not not being underwater. But being significantly above the waterline. (I like the first Dire Straits album a lot…) There was one sad dashing note – a dash that earned me mega bucks one time didn’t earn me even enough to cover the trip from Waterloo. But at least the ride took me back to Geneva, so not bad – but $8.50 compared to $35. Oh well. I guess I won’t be hoping for that offer as stridently.
At lunch time I ate the last of my pasta from last night. And some red bean dip of course. It is seeming less dip like and more salsa. Weird. I also picked AD up and took him back to lockdown. And a few minutes later, he called again. He was missing one of the items that he had left with. He thought it might be in my car. (It wasn’t) And then he thought it might be in his car, in the back seat where he always puts things. (It wasn’t – it was in the front seat well) So, I had to drive back to the prison, get his keys and get the bag out of his car. I didn’t deliver it until a little while later – when I had a dash that took me within a block of the nursing home. That worked out!
Then came the afternoon dash. Boy howdy was that weird. Two good dashes. And then two bad dashes – one of which was terrible. And one dash I had to turn down – $11 for 16 miles. No thank you. I picked up the next one – $7+ for 3 miles. Woo hoo! Well, not so woo hoo. When I had picked up the order, I saw that the address was close. But…it said to hand the order to him inside the Taco Bell. I know a lot of the people at our local Taco Bell. None with that name. And our Taco Bell was not at that location. So I called. Left a VM. Then I texted and left a message. And then I called again. He picked up. Turns out that he had meant to have the order delivered to him at the Newark Taco Bell!!! Not for $7+ baby – unless that plus was $13. I told him that. He told me he would give me an additional $16 if I delivered it to him. I agreed. Why not! Nice day for a drive. And I decided that would be my last drive of the shift.
Got there, handed him his food and he gave me $20 cash! So my dash is going to look anemic this week. But I have done OK $ wise. Two airport rides, two and a half errands with AD and the $20 tip. I’m raking it in and rolling in it. Like leaves! Ok, not really. That would be weird…
And there we have it. I am home now. I stopped at Los Amigos and got their Enchilada Supreme special. And an order of rice and beans. So excited!
