Yay Sort of Vacation!

I cannot express how happy I am that I will not be dashing for about two weeks. Dashing as in Door Dash that is. I will be dashing about. Sort of like the reindeer. Hither and yon. Delivering presents? Doubtful. But zipping to places far and wide.

But I am, once again, ahead of myself. Before I can get to the non-dashing, I need to just say a quick word about my dashing today. It was a good dash. Curtailed a tad early. Mainly because I didn’t want to dash anymore. I had lots of short dashes and made decent money. Woo hoo! Not enough to pay for the hot water heater, but still. Every shekel in is a shekel that can go out later. I like leaving door dash on a high note.

After dashing, I came home for lunch and a shower. I was really dirty. My poor hair. And the poor people who had to see me with my hair looking quite so icky. That is one of the issues with long hair – it can look really bad at times. Bald people don’t have that problem, do they? Do they have bad head days?

Post shower, I headed to SM’s to string some evil Christmas lights for her. Somehow she ended up with snowflake LEDs that were solar powered. And they were not fun to try to untangle. I don’t know that I did that great a job stringing them up. But they are up. Huzzuh!

Back at home, I went through most of my reminders and took care of a lot of little things. I skipped some of the tougher things and will see about doing them tomorrow while waiting for the flights. Oh, one of the things I did was to check-in to the flights. We will still have to stop at the Agent Desk to get EC her wheelchair in any case. I do hope that will allow us to skip through TSA easily and board early instead of in the late group that we are assigned. I printed out two copies of the boarding passes. It would be nice if I printed out two copies on purpose, but I did not. In any case, better to have too many copies than too few. And since I am traveling with someone I didn’t want to try to add the boarding passes to my phone’s wallet. I have done it before and it is handy, but…

I will pack after dinner tonight. I don’t have to pack a lot because we will only be traveling for three days, two nights. I will take the kids. And because of the terribleness of travel nowadays, I will pack some snacks for the trip. I hope EC likes peanut M&Ms. I hope that my new suitcase fits in the overhead measuring bins. I think we are on small planes both legs. Ick. I did not book these tickets.

When I get back from the trip, I will take at least one day between returning and heading off to Maine. Hopefully the trips will go smoothly and we won’t get stuck anywhere for an extended period of time. Of course, the driving trip Northeast will be dependent on clement weather.

Oh, it turns out that my right boot is indeed compromised and shipping water. Maybe I will get new boots while I am in Maine.

Augustus for President: I had a nice, though brief, discussion with someone about the campaign. I hope that we can speak again. They seem thoughtful, informed and interested. Good things indeed!

Another possible campaign photo?

BBQ!

Yum!!

Having lived in the South, three separate times, I have grown to like a lot of different kinds of BBQ. And I will say that Smokin’ Pete’s was pretty good. I got a mixed plate of pulled pork and ribs plus the two sides – beans and macaroni and cheese. Everything was good. They had two or three different sauces one could put on things as well. I am so looking forward to my dinner tonight – leftovers!

Today was another quiet day. Well, except for the few hours of cowbells. My house sits at a place where runners from the triathlon pass by twice. There are always well wishers out ringing the cowbell and offering beverages. Lots of other sounds of encouragement as well. Yay.

What I meant was, that I had a quiet day of limited activity. I spent a lot of time listening to DCC and adding things to my “Augustus for President” document. Like re-reading the declaration of independence and the constitution. I read them both long ago when I took US history at Andover. Speaking of which, I am a little surprised that even Andover stopped making Civics a mandatory subject for graduation. I would love to push for that to be reinstated. And maybe have a copy of both documents in every classroom. With QR codes and such. Maybe VR ready. Who knows. Anyway…

I also had a chat with my lovely sister. Her advice to me was to run for city council or school board. Both fine offices for people who want to run for them. I have no interest in either. Who knows, though, maybe after my run for the White House, if it should not succeed (heaven forbid) I might look for some other office. Probably not because I will, by that time, be in my later 60s and really wouldn’t want to expend my energies in trying to achieve some lesser position. She did have some thoughts about things I might be able to try and fix when I got elected. I really hope that she will vote for me if the chance arises.

I also did my Sunday chores – laundry, shower and sheet change! I think I will put the trash out tonight. I wonder how my balance is with the trash company…I ought to have looked when I did monthly accounts earlier in the week. I have added it to my spreadsheet so I will think to look every month from now on.

My next weekend is going to be interesting, I think. I am headed to my first “powwow.” I’ve always wanted to go to one and this will be my chance. The entry fee is really inexpensive, so that’s a good thing. It is a couple of hours away, which isn’t so great – but I will be driving the Tesla and I will have a good book to listen to! I might be at DCC 6 by then maybe. (I am at DCC #4 right now) It doesn’t look like there are evening activities. I guess I will find out. There is an activity Friday evening before the powwow – which I might end up attending if nothing comes up before then. Have you ever been to a “powwow?”

No Comfort Food Today!

Not Comfort Food

I had a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch today. And some soup. Someone I told thought that it was comfort food. Nope, not in this case. It was “getting rid of stuff” food. I saw that I still had a slice of monterey jack cheese left over from when I made patty melts all those weeks ago. I wanted to use it up – if it hadn’t become more moldy than cheesy. Turns out, it was more moldy than cheesy, so it got toassed. I also had some extra sharp cheddar, so that formed the basis of the cheese. I toyed with the idea of adding cream cheese to the sandwich, but found the container still sealed. So I left it that way. I did add some pickles to the sandwich – almost done with that jar. And I used two slices of white bread that has been around for a while. Only a few more pieces left. Yay freezers!

It has been a day filled with getting things done. Well, once I got out of bed that is. I had the above mentioned lunch, made my bed with fresh flannel space sheets, did two loads of laundry (one load of which was just a quilt), a shower, a call to my lovely sister (who I caught napping!) and sent off my tax documents to my brother since he has been silly enough to agree to do my taxes once again. And I bugged him about helping my fellow dasher with her taxes as he said he was willing to do them as well. And I have spent way too much time chatting with people online who probably aren’t really the people in their pictures. And some who might be, but are only interested in chatting with me if I send them money or things. Sigh. Someday I will be in a healthy relationship with a real person again. Anything is possible.

Well, that was anticlimactic. I was going to see if I could salvage anything from the avocado and the pomegranate from SM. And, the answers were: no and no. The avocado was mostly bad. I could have gotten maybe two spoonfuls (spoonsful) out of it. And the pomegranate might have been salvageable if I was up for a lot of work. Which I wasn’t. Maybe they will both sprout. Hahaha. So it is back to thinking deep thoughts until taco time. Yes, I am making tacos tonight. I am going to try deep frying a flour tortilla again. Last time I didn’t fry it nearly enough and it was still almost completely floppy.

I have decided that I am going to cook my own duck at some point soon. The duck I have been getting from the Asia Market up in Rochester just didn’t taste as good to me this last time. I don’t know why. Maybe they changed their recipe. Or maybe my taste buds changed. Or both? Or something else entirely. Who knows. All I know is that I am going to give that a break and just make one myself at home. Not sure if I am going to go for Chinese or French style…

Ok, taco time! I am aiming for two corn tortillas and one flour tortilla. Wish me luck!

Maybe a Teeny Fib

How did it become one o’clock already? Time flies when you are lying around in your bed doing a lot of nothing! But there are big plans in store for the day. Big. Plans.

What, you may ask, are those big plans? Well, that would be telling, wouldn’t it. You’ll just have to follow along in this blog and see what great, huge things transpired for me on this most Sunday of Sundays.

Breakfast for dinner makings

So, my teeny fib was that I really didn’t have big plans for the day. In fact, I didn’t really have any special plans for the day at all. Just the same old Sunday stuff that I seem to do every Sunday when I am here. And I did them all!

Yes, I showered and made my bed. I now have a good routine for bed making – I watch a news show on YouTube and make my bed at the same time. I think it takes me maybe 5 minutes to strip and then remake the bed. Call me Mr. Efficient Bed Maker guy. All those years of making beds has come in handy. I also, eventually, took a shower. It’s not that I don’t like being clean. I do like being clean. But I also don’t like having to climb into a tub to take a shower. So, on the agenda for this year or next, my next big project (besides the roof whenever that happens) is to change the tub in the blue bathroom into a walk in shower. I think I can store the tub in the barn. Hmm. Maybe the barn still needs to be a priority. Speaking of which, I asked JM how much it might cost to double the size of the barn, but he never got back to me. I’ll bug him about it again later in the month. It is about time for us to have another of our half hour catch-up sessions. And I’m guessing it is going to be $30k. Sigh.

Since I was making beds and cleaning myself, I also did a load of laundry. The unfolded pile sits and glares at me as I type this. But it will get attention after I have published this most exciting of blogs. Just you wait, evil laundry, just you wait!

And I had sort of planned to make waffles in the afternoon and not at dinner as part of the dinner set up. But that didn’t happen. So I made them sort of concurrently with the other breakfast items. I planned to make Eggs Augustus – a poached egg, on a waffle (half a waffle actually) and a slice of regular bacon, topped with hollandaise sauce. (I had to run down and put the rest of the sauce in a container and in the refrigerator before I forgot – no time except the present – or something like that…) I also cooked up some maple sausage links. But no bread and no hash browns. This time. Maybe next time. Still tasty!

And now we are all caught up. Oh, does anyone else use long johns as a substitute for PJs during the winter. I find it easier to do that than get out a pajama bottom (I have one – thank you JSRBM) and some sort of shirt.
