Some Weird Stuff

Last night, after getting home, I watched the season finale of The Wheel of Time streaming series on Prime. I will state again, this is not the books. If you are hoping for a faithful adaptation of the books, this is not that. Run away. Do not watch this. It is not that at all. It is its own thing. In this episode they killed off another character – one who had a long story line that intersected with a lot of other characters during the book series. And those are all gone now. She is really dead. I think they decapitated her. I have no idea where the show will go from here. The whole point of the books, I thought, was to see the Light (the good guys) go through lots of crap to become strong enough to fight the Dark in the Last Battle. From what the series is doing, there won’t be enough time to see that development. I am not amused. Will I still watch it? Sure, why not? I mean, so what if it is horrible. It is still a fantasy series that is being done fairly well. Just not really anything to do with the books except for a few names and a part of the lore. Sigh.

So, yes, last night, we trivialized again. It was a big group! Four people who aren’t regularly with us came. I think they each came up with an answer that no one else had. Fun night. I might have had a tad too much to drink, but it all ended ok. We didn’t place, which is sad. I think we did ok – except that we didn’t get the baffler quickly enough. One of the best teams got it the first round. I think we got it on the fourth round. Maybe got four points. That ten points really makes a huge difference, I think. We also had pretzels. Yay pretzels! If I already talked about trivia last night, well, now I did it twice…

The sky the other day

Looks like I am sort of jumping around my life’s time line. And now we are going to talk about dashing.

It was a two dash day. The first dash followed in the footsteps of most of the rest of the dashes this week. Not enough money for too much driving. At least I didn’t have to decline any offers, which is always a good thing in my book. I was tempted to cancel on a couple of rides since I was getting such crap dashes. But I didn’t. I just took what the algorithm gave me. And suffered on.

My second dash was actually decent. I made more money than miles driven! Woo hoo! Still not a great dash, but certainly ok. Almost made up for all the bad dashes I have had this past week. (Not in terms of money, but in terms of driving vs. $$)

And that was more about yesterday.

I played a lot today. Which is a good thing. One of the things I like about old style RPGs like this one, is that you can save and go back to a point where things weren’t terrible. Yes, you may have to play through the tough bit again, but at least you have a sense of what will be needed from you in order to accomplish the goals. And not have your squad dying. I’m tempted to make a character that has high lockpicking skills and not much else going on. That skill seems inordinately important in these games.

I also neatened up the kitchen. Wiped a lot of counters and my wonderful middle table island thingie (thank you PvK). I did dishes, and caught up on glassware. I had accumulated a lot of dirty pint glasses. And lastly, I took the time to debone the duck! Woo hoo!!

Which means, I will be having duck for dinner tonight. I think I will fry one leg, and some of the skin. And warm up a few pieces of meat. And have more pasta with alfredo sauce. And a salad. And my last piece of store bought garlic cheese toast. Sounds like a good meal to me!

Cheese Tasting Bar!!

I woke up this morning and was a little stiff and I didn’t really know why. I thought perhaps I had slept in an uncomfortable position or something. Then I got a call to pick up things at NAPA – brake rotors – and I realized that I was sore from lifting the big container of crap from Lowes yesterday. Sigh. I really do need to do some exercise I think…

Today was a two dash day. Not very exciting dashes. Not terrible, not great. I had one interesting thing happen. I was offered a ride from a sketchy place for $2 for 4 miles. I declined it. Then I was offered an $11 ride for 12 miles (which was only 10 miles from the store) and took it. Only to discover another dasher there who was confused by the store being closed. So, I helped him go through the steps (I wonder if he had accepted the order I turned down – and if Door Dash had sweetened the dash as they sometimes do) to let Door Dash know that the store was closed. Then I did the same thing. So, $5 for a mile or two – not bad! And I didn’t have to wait at the sketchy store. Win win.

Also dashing today, I picked up an order from Sweet Acres Creamery. I will almost always take an order from there, regardless of the $$ because they have a cheese tasting bar there! Even having to wait as long as I did, ten minutes just about, because the counter person couldn’t multi task and hadn’t started the milkshakes until after the food was done (sigh), it wasn’t so bad because I could eat cheese and cheese curds! Yippee!

Cheese sample bar!!

I finally finished The Rookie. It ended really abruptly. In the middle of a season, or so it seemed to me. They had started about four story lines and none of them were resolved in the last episode that aired. I wonder what happened. I looked on line and there wasn’t anything that leapt out at me.

Tonight, instead watching a lot of stuff online, I plan on reading and playing a good bit. As I mentioned, I am at the start of the sweet spot of an RPG. Where I am getting more comfortable with the way it works and still am struggling because my characters are underpowered for my tastes. I like to Tiltowait everything when I can (that is an ancient RPG reference). So, playing would be fun.

And I am about halfway through the book I am reading – the last in the Broken Earth series. I think it is due on Friday. I hope that it automatically renews if I don’t finish it. But I hope to get a good bit read tonight. We shall, of course, see.

Dinner was up for debate tonight. One of me wanted duck. One of me wanted left over steak and pasta. And one found some leftover chicken that would make good filling for an omelet. Which is what I have opted for. It is the oldest of the leftovers and needs to be cooked more and eaten. I think I will have a salad with the omelet. And some toast I think. Why not? Maybe even an English muffin. Though I have been slow eating my English muffins ever since the outlet store closed. That still makes me sad.

Onwards!
