My Tart is a Quiche

Looks like a quiche to me…

What is the difference between a tart and a quiche? In this instance, I have no idea. But, I fell for the same thing that I always fall for in making quiche like dishes – not putting in enough spices. Oh well. I will survive. This one was mostly a way to use up the ricotta cheese that SM left me. I used half of it. I think I will get more pie crusts and try this recipe, mostly, again. With some more salt and some more pepper and maybe even some more stuff tossed in.

Today was a gloomy day outside. I wanted to stay in all day. Then I realized that SM’s trash can was still out. So I had to go and move that. Well, I didn’t have to. It was just better that I did. And that was going to be the extent of my outdoors activity. But fate wouldn’t let that happen.

This morning I got a call from EC asking if I would accompany her to a concert this evening. One that JC didn’t feel up to attending. She had mentioned this jazz singer before. And it is happening right down the road from me. And she asked early enough in the day that I could adjust my mental plans for the evening. Which is why I am writing up this blog post now, rather than later.

Speaking of blog posts, someone caught up on a lot of my posts! Thank you whoever it was!

Besides running that quick errand, all that was on my agenda was to do some playing of Hogwart’s Legacy – which I did. And to read more of Verity. Which I also did. I would like to finish that book this weekend. The game will take a good bit longer. I am only 5% complete at this point and I have been playing for around 7 hours! I doubt I will get to 100% complete. But however much I do complete, I am enjoying the game.

I also did a little neatening in the kitchen. Woo hoo!

It is the 31st! A new month begins tomorrow. June already! How crazy is that? It would be nifty if we had consistently warm days going forward for a while. Instead we got a day under 50°F today and another similar one tomorrow. Poo. I just don’t feel like hanging out on my porch when it is this cold. And if I am not hanging out there, I am not too motivated to put up the five curtain rods I have purchased. True, I only have curtains for 3 of them so far, but we shall see if I can come up with some more from somewhere.

And that’s all that I am writing tonight. I have to go pick EC up and go to the concert. I hope I can stay awake. At least it isn’t dance. I almost always sleep for the first half hour of a dance performance. I don’t know why but dance performances put me right to sleep!

Empanada Madness!

New empanada plan. I realized last night that it was going to be a bit of a process to make the empanadas so I just had lovers for dinner. I’ll make the empanadas today but I’ll start around 4. That ought to give me plenty of time to get them together. (They only took about half an hour to make and another 20 minutes or so to cook.)

Rainy day here in the Finger lakes.

I’ve was playing and then the game crashed. It will be interesting to see when I last saved. Not recently enough is my guess. (right before it crashed! Huzzuh!) I hope it is just a glitch because I’d been playing for a couple of hours before a huge battle.

And it happened again. I think that Wasteland 3 doesn’t like people playing for more than two hours at a time. Well poo. So, I guess I will do something else. In about an hour I will start the empanandas. Maybe I will read for a bit.

Here we are. Post empanada madness. Well, the making bit. I will admit, I over stuffed the pizza ones. And despite having all sorts of stuff for innards, I didn’t make anything with all of that. I did make some feta with greek olives ones. 9 of each actually. I think if I make more empanadas in the future, I might have to food process the innards or something. The size I am making does not make for a lot of space for filling. Maybe I ought to make fewer larger ones. Hmm. Anyway, I made 18 out of the box of pie dough. The store also had small rounds of dough. I might buy a box and see just how small they are. All thoughts appreciated! Oh, and pictures will be up on my instagram feed eventually.

Someone on threads posted a link to a game to name all fifty states. I forgot Maryland for some reason. I’ve been to Maryland a couple of times. And driven through parts of it many times. But that apparently wasn’t enough to make me remember it under pressure.

I realized the other day that I didn’t ride my bicycle once last season. Maybe because I was dashing five days a week and by the time the weekend rolled around, I really didn’t want to do anything. With my current schedule, I think I might be able to squeeze in some bike riding. Which means I will probably be taking my bike to the bike shop to be taken care of sometime this month! Bike riding for the win!

And that has been my exciting Saturday. Playing and making empanadas. Now it will be time to eat some empanadas. And play some more. What an exciting life I lead.

Pleasant Errand-y Day

How long do you have to live somewhere to consider that you have lived in that place? (A question for another post maybe: And how long is a long term relationship?) In both Colombia and Panama I felt very at home, though I only spent a little more than a week in both places. Did I live there? Sort of. Personally I think that a minimum amount of time needs to be spent someplace to let myself consider I have lived there. Like 3 weeks. So I lived in Costa Rica, where I was for six weeks I think. But I didn’t really live in Colombia or Panama. Certainly visited them! Yay travel!

Today was an errand day. And I did a lot of them. Happily and well, all things considered.

I got up later than I had intended so I didn’t do the errands I thought I was going to do before getting my tires rotated. Instead, I went straight to Mavis Tire. The whole schmoo took about half an hour. I hadn’t realized that I needed to ask them to check the air in the tires. I would have thought that was a given. But it was all free, so what do I care. They did say that I was about half way through the tires life span. Three more rotations or so I think. Another 15k miles. Doable!

Next stop was Tractor Supply. Since they had a hardware selection, I thought they might have the universal handles that Lowes had. They didn’t. Which meant that I added Lowes to my errands list. But before I headed there, it was off to the Salvation Army again. I ostensibly went there to find medium sized plates. Ok, that was my primary mission, really. But it was also to say hi to the crush who works there. She called me nice. And hon. I wasn’t pleased with the hon. I will probably go back again next Friday – BSUC.

Look! A new handle!! We will see how it works tomorrow, but my hopes are high

Off to Lowes! I didn’t know which way the car would recommend. It chose the lakefront, highway route. I wonder if that was much longer than the through town, North Street to Sessler Route. In any case, I made it and got myself a new handle. So excited! When I got home I attached it to my bidet. And tested it. Ooops. I didn’t expect quite that strong a stream when I only had it up to one. And briefly at that. Luckily the lid was down so water didn’t go everywhere.

After Lowes, I headed downtown. I needed to go to the library. They had two books waiting for me – The Fifth Season and Weyward. And I dropped of the last book I had finished. Still, that makes three library books that I have on hand. I think I only get three weeks with them if someone else requests them. So I have to get reading. At least I have gotten a little past the halfway mark in the William Goldman book. But I will need to crank through these books if I am to finish them before the three weeks are up. And as I was sitting here, I got a notification that the third book in the fantasy series that I stared is also being held for me. I think I can wait until next Friday to pick it up. At least I hope so. By then I ought to have finished at least one of the three books that I have in my queue.

Next and last stop, Wegmans. I got out for under $50, barely. I got some good stuff I think. Some sweet snacks, some salty snacks, some hamburger for tonight’s dinner (I have chosen to do tacos tonight after all) and a few other things. On the way out I happened to run into MLT. Apparently she has been traveling (Grand Cayman islands) and been sick with the flu. It was great to see here. Hope springs eternal.

Back at home, I have done very little. I did arrange to go to a play at HWS with SM tomorrow night. After we dine somewhere. She is checking for hamburgers. And might come up with the back-up plan. I will ask MQ (my boarder) to see if she has any interest in the play. I doubt it, but it won’t kill me to ask! I also ate some lunch and played a bit. And read a bit.

All in all a very pleasant day. Now, taco Friday! That’s a thing, right?

I woke up this morning, after dreaming about a restaurant that I liked not remaking a to-go food order that someone else took – that seemed wrong to me. I think they were about to remake it, finally, when I woke up. But, I woke up and checked my email and found a reminder from my bank that I had asked to set up an external transfer account and to finish up the verification process. I logged on and tried and tried to figure out how to verify the account and failed. There was a bit of instruction on one of the pages that said that I needed to verify the account – but no link or instructions on how to do that. So I called them. Luckily the credit union is open on Saturdays until 1. I got someone on the line and she too had to search around to find where one went to verify an account. She found it! (I hadn’t.) Under preferences. Who would have looked under preferences? I suggested they add a link or instructions of something telling people precisely how to finish up verifying their external account. All happy now. The person also said they would pass along the suggestions. I am master of UI!

Let’s screw! I found the electric drill, right where I left it. And the battery was dead. Who didn’t think to charge it last night? Sigh. So, I’ll check back in a few hours and see if there is enough charge to drill a pilot hole to allow the screwing to begin.

And it’s done! So excited!!

I screwed the wall! After I first drilled it a bit. I think this will be a good thing. As long as no one very strong decides to try to close the screen door without unhooking it first. It could happen. Yes, I am filled with irrational fears. Isn’t everyone? You tell me yours, I’ll tell you mine. Though I might have mentioned them elsewhere.

There was a good flight price to Paris but I didn’t buy it ($490 round trip from Rochester). I am not sure why. I guess I am not sure when I am interested in traveling. Part of my is not excited about my next trip, because it is to places I have been before. True, I would be seeing relatives, but…

It has been an extremely lazy day. Mostly reading and playing. I did eat a little – a bagel for lunch – half got cream cheese, half got peanut butter and jelly. Tonight, leftovers – mac and cheese and a maple link or two and a salad. Oh! My boarder has gotten something called “Noodles in a box – stir fry.” I will have to ask her where she is purchasing it because I didn’t see it in the Wegman’s app or on the Walmart website.

We are supposed to be getting some snow tonight. And more tomorrow I think. (Just hoping that Syracuse does not get snow on Monday night when I am supposed to be picking SM up from the train station.) This winter is being much more wintery than the last couple have been. Still nothing that has required snow-blowing (which is good since my snowblower died a few years ago – I think it just needs a new belt, but I have don’t nothing to explore that…If I do need a snowblower, I am getting a battery operated one because the corded one is for the birds! Or the junk yard.).
