Maybe I have read the book before. But as soon as I read the beginning of it, I knew who the murderer was. It was still an ok Ed McBain book. And with that, I have read my last book of 2024. I wonder how many I have read. At least five. Maybe 15? 20? I guess I could have kept track, but where’s the fun in that? Oh, right, I like to keep track of things like that. Oh well. Maybe next year.

My last dash of the year was pleasant enough. Lots of dashes, decent money, no really terrible dashes to either do or turn down. I still think that as long as one has a 100% acceptance rate, each subsequent acceptance ought to add to one’s rate – I would probably be at around 130% at this point. It sure would make skipping bad rides less irksome. One of my rides sent me to Wegman’s to pick stuff up, so I could see when they were closing for the night. 8 pm.
Which meant that I had loads of time after lunching, to go and get my groceries. I had a little list. Most of it was regular stuff – for salads and such. But I also had some things that were just for this “special” occasion. I wanted to get smoked clams, but Wegman’s didn’t have them. They had smoked oysters and smoked mussels. I opted for the mussels. I also got a box with a selection of crackers in it. I do like a bit of variety. And lastly, I got a thing of Borsin. There was a second type of Borsin, but I wasn’t feeling adventurous enough to spring for it. I thought about getting some pointy artichokes, but they were about a dollar more expensive than they have been recently, so I chose not to. Next year, if I decide to have one of my favorite comfort meals (a small piece of steak and an artichoke (plus sundries)), I will splurge on the artichoke. As long as they are pointy.
If I get extra peckish tonight, I still have leftovers from Sunday night’s dinner at Anorah. I went by there yesterday because I saw people go in. I had forgotten that they are open on Mondays, generally. Maybe after they re-open after their break, I will go and hang out there occasionally. Silly of me, but when have I not been silly?
Oh, speaking of silly, I asked my erstwhile helper to come and clean the house. Why? Because she does an ok job and she isn’t very expensive. I want to ask her to look around the house and to let me know what skeeves her out so I can try to mitigate that before my guest comes for a month.
I hope to do a few other things around the house. I might make a list so I can check things off. There are a bunch o things I would like to do. And the new year seems like an apt time to do them! For instance, I might change the shower curtains in the green bathroom. And maybe put down a different bathtub non slip pad thing. We shall see how I feel on my day off tomorrow. Yes, I am taking the first day of the year off.
SM wants to give me a beer subscription or something like that for Christmas. Who am I to disagree? Does anyone know anything about beer clubs?
Tonight my exciting plans are: to do just about everything I often do at night. Though with a tip of the hat to midnight passing and the advent of a new year. Since I am not “with” anyone – nor do I know anyone who seems to be remotely interested in me romantically, I have no desire to set foot out of the house and spend NYE with others. I will keep myself excellent company, I am sure!
Ok, I am done with my last blog of the year, I think. 2024 was interesting. Hopefully 2025 will be slightly less so in some ways, more so in others. Whatever happens, I wish only the best of you and yours!
