Who here has been to a Pow Wow?

Up until yesterday, I would be someone who would say they had never been to a pow wow. This will not, I hope, be my only pow wow.

Today, I got out of bed very slowly. I hadn’t slept well for whatever reason. So I was feeling more sluggish than I normally feel in the morning. But I got my morning Duolingo accomplished and headed to the free breakfast. Sadly there was someone using the waffle maker and I didn’t really want to wait. Though I did have to wait for the breakfast bag as well…

At the Pow Wow, I checked in and took a quick gander to see what if anything was happening. Nothing much was going on. So I headed back to the car where I listened to my book while it charged (the car, not the book…though the book was playing through my phone – which was charging – as was the car…). I charged almost to full so that I wouldn’t have range anxiety about the trip back home. At the pow wow, I parked in the parking garage instead of in the lot outside. The lot may have been a little closer to the action, but the parking lot was less hot and I could get there without going outside. True, when I went back to my car at one point, I didn’t find it right away. Sigh.

I got in to the event space and sat in the “Elder’s Tent” – two sections set aside for the elderly and for people with accessibility concerns. I qualified as an Elder because I am over 60! Woo hoo! It wasn’t the most awesome seat – but many of the best seats were already spoken for. When I first sat down, around 12:15 I think, the space was about half full. It took them a while to get the program started.

Off to a slow start – literally. The first group of dancers were military veterans and they moved really slowly. But eventually they got where they needed to go. This was followed by a few speeches. And then a few competitive dances. The prizes were all going to be announced on Sunday, which I will miss. Boo hoo. There were also a few “inter-tribal” dances where everyone could get up and dance. I did not, yet again, get up and dance.

At one point, I checked my casino card, only to discover that the $15 credit was only good for 24 hours. Poo. Oh well, life is that way sometimes.

At one point, I had planned to stay until the bitter end on Saturday night. Then drive home. Then I changed that to leaving at 9. Then 7. Then 5…which stuck. I thought of getting food for the road, but decided I would just leap in the car and toodle home. I did all the driving in daylight! The backroads ere much more pleasant that way.

Pizza was calling my name. I stopped at the Cam’s in Penn Yan and picked up a slice of pizza, 5 wings and a soda for dinner. Which I ate when I got home, 15 or so minutes later. I still have some wings. Maybe I will have those and some dolmades (which were still in the fridge) for lunch.

No presidential stuff today. It was mostly a day to absorb. I didn’t even do much talking with my seat mates. Tomorrow is another day.
