MLK Holiday

Hey, don’t blame me, blame the government for making today a holiday. Oh, and the weather turned bitterly cold. Again. And the roads aren’t in perfect condition. And I just don’t wanna go dash today. So, I am not doing it. Just staying home. I hope to tackle the rest of the bedroom tonight – clean up the computer area and do some actual vacuuming. I even got a vacuum into the room in anticipation of that exciting event. It’s early times yet.

And I have a plan for dinner. I don’t think I have any leftovers to speak of. My boarder has the fridge filled with stuff, so I guess I will do an inventory of that as well at some point. I have till 5 when she is supposed to return.

One of the things I like about the Apple Universe is that when I make a reminder on any of my devices, all my devices know about it. I go on my laptop and work through them – because some of them are computer based items. Like today I wanted to look at my iCloud folder since it was apparently getting full. There is a lot of crap there and I will, someday, clean it all out. Today I just removed a couple of big things from it. Woo hoo. Next up was connecting my airpods to my TV. Yes, my new TV has bluetooth. But my airpods didn’t have a set up button. Silly of me to not realize that I could tap on the front of the case to turn on pairing. Sigh. But I did it. Now, how to change the output from the TV…I figure it is nice of me, if I want to listen to something fairly loudly, to be able to do it through my airpods, to allow my boarders/guests to not have to hear it.

I’ve gotten the floor vacuumed in my bedroom. And cleaned up one of my two desks. Still a couple of things to do before my boarder returns. And then, I am again, chickening out of going to hang out someplace before getting food. I am going to get food from Los Amigos downtown and toyed with the idea of going to get a beer someplace before hand…but, (imaging chicken sounds)

Two more little missions accomplished. I neatened up the computer/desk area a teeny bit. I still have a bag and a box to go through. Maybe I will sort those this evening while I watch things that are not keeping my interest. And I looked in the fridge. I don’t have any leftovers in there! Woo hoo! I do have a bunch of lettuce I should eat…

The kitchen sink is empty again. That’s a good thing.

Tonight, I am having Mexican food as I had mentioned earlier. I opted for chimichangas, chicken. Not as much food as when I order the house fajitas. We’ll see what happens next time I go there. I must admit that their chips are better than the ones at Monterey Mexican in the plaza.

Pretty tasty! More deeply fried would be cool by me…

And there we have it. Surprisingly late blog for a holiday post!

Lots of Pillows!

Lots of pillows to help me sit up straight closer to the “TV”

What do we call watching TV now? I for one don’t watch a lot of TV in real time. A few live streams here and there. But I certainly don’t spend the bulk of my time on ABC, CBS and NBC. Do people still do that? When I am watching streaming things, I could be watching anything from a streaming platform or service. I spend a decent amount of time on YouTube. And I have a few streaming services that I watch routinely. Can I just still say “watching TV?” If there is some new vernacular, please let me know.

My ambition for the week is to have my bedroom roomba ready. To be honest, I don’t think this room has ever been Roomba ready. It shouldn’t be that hard. Most of the “mess” is clothes that haven’t been put in their proper places. Pants in a pants drawer. Shirts hung up in the closet. That sort of thing. And then I will go on “wire patrol” to see if I can nip any trouble spots in the butt, er, bud before setting a roomba to work.

Charging my phone in my car ought to be an easy thing. I mean, it is an electric car, so charging an electric phone ought to be simple. Sadly, my 2019 model 3 has an issue with its USB ports. (As many other model 3’s from around the same time do.) One that isn’t fixable for a reasonable price. The reasonable price being “free.” So, as a work around, I used a long lightning cable (I have an older iPhone) to bring power from the rear seat USB ports. Woo hoo! Unfortunately, they don’t make cables like they used to. Or they make them to fail too quickly. My latest cable died recently. I will, I guess, buy another long cable one day, if I keep the car. But in the meantime, I am using the battery pack that PV gave me. And it works pretty well. It is small enough that I can put it in my pocket with the phone when I am walking about. Yippee!

Today was a Monday. I slept a little later than I normally do. And got up and got out to do my one dashing shift of the day. It was a little bit above average in terms of earnings. A little long in terms of driving. Both due to a late offer from Door Dash to pick up from NAPA Geneva and deliver to NAPA Penn Yan. It is so weird how Door Dash seems to so frequently send me on a long dash just when I am getting ready to end my shift – even though I don’t have the shift scheduled to end for an hour after the time I am actually aiming for stopping. But I don’t mind. Long drives that are decently compensated make my shifts more pleasant!

Today was also a Wegman’s day. I didn’t have a lot to buy – eggs and bacon because, well, I like both of those items. I also bought makings for desert. SM gave me some of the Angel Food cake to eat. And some strawberry sauce she made. Which she says will go bad soon. So, I bought some chocolate ice cream and some whip cream to make the deserts more festive. I also bought two bottles of soda water. Unlike Ted Lasso, I like some bubbles in my beverages.

Tonight’s dinner will be leftovers from dinner with SM on Saturday. And a salad. Leaving lots of room for desert. Woo hoo!

Yay! Another crappy dashing shift. Maybe even super crappy. I drove 82 miles and barely made my minimum. So I quit early to charge the car a bit more. It felt like the algorithm was doing everything it could to get me to decline one. Each of the rides was worse than the one before it – further and further for less and less (in a relative way). But I did not skip one. And my last ride was actually a good one. Not great, but better than the prior three or four had been. Grrr. Hopefully the next shift will be better. Hahahaha

Luckily, the long(ish) term boarder nibble fell through. I was having second and third and fourth thoughts about it in any case. And it turns out that the reason that her hosts asked her to leave was not because they had family coming, it was because the guest wanted to have her three children with her over Christmas. I was not going to tell the agent that I had enough space for them all. As I really didn’t want someone I didn’t know in the house for a week while I was away. And certainly wouldn’t want her and her three kids here without me being here. So, phew!

Finished my first Ed McBain book. I will take a few more with me when I head to Maine. But I will start the Eric Idle book this afternoon – The Spamalot Diaries.

The universe really needs to pick which things it acts on better. This morning, I saw that NAPA was a hot spot and I lamented that I liked NAPA rides. And lo and behold, I got a NAPA ride. The longest possible. Not the best, but certainly good. But a million dollars by the end of the year in my hands? Or a life partner? Crickets from the universe. Heck, not even crickets! Sigh.

Tonight was, overall, fun.

After charging and thinking and stuff this afternoon, I dashed again. This was one of those dash affirming dashes that are, sadly, few and far between. I did do some distance, but the earnings compensated. My first three rides were all well earned and in a good sequence. From Geneva to Seneca Falls. To Waterloo. To the Outlet Malls and then back to Geneva. Nice way to start a shift! I think I had a few not so great rides, but they were balanced with a few nicely and in some cases extra nicely compensated rides. Top ten earning shifts I think of the time I have been capturing.

My last ride was a zinger. It was just enough to get me to take a long ride to Phelps which meant that I would be a tiny bit tardy to trivia at Twisted! Two minutes. Not that it mattered. The pictures were of Oscar Winning Directors. I think we got three or four maybe. Sigh. But it was still a fun evening. With P and J. No B I guess. And our fellow trivialites. Good times.

And now it is time to watch some stuff on the ether. Happy dreams one and all!
