Pavlos’

Happy Sunday to one and all. If it’s Sunday when you read this. If it isn’t, er, nevermind.

Anyway, it was a decent Sunday. I stayed in bed until the last possible moment before getting up, getting dressed and heading out into the world.

On the docket: taking JC and EC to visit TC in Auburn. As followers of this blog know, I have made this trip a number of times. This time, we had a different plan. Because TC enjoys watching football and JC is happy to spend time with TC doing that, EC and I dropped them at their preferred football watching place and headed off to a new-to-us-both place that I had on my radar.

The place is called Pavlos’ and is an old style diner. It is in an unassuming building. Not a lot of seating that I could see. The place was crowded when we arrived. One of the servers assured us that we would love it. Everyone loves it, she told us. And boy howdy, did EC love it! (I liked it and would happily go back)

They have a pretty extensive menu. They are knonn primarily for their breakfasts, though they are open for all three meals (I think). Since EC is a vegetarian, there is always the concern that she won’t be able to find something tasty to eat. Luckily she eats eggs. So she ordered a two egg omelet with spinach and feta. And she raved about it. She also loved her hash browns, which I had requested (for both of us) to be crispy. I ordered a Reuben – which was decent. I thought there was a little too little sauerkraut and not enough swiss cheese, but overall it was a good version. And my crispy hash browns were also tasty! Oh, I had home fries (hash browns?) instead of fries because, for some reason, they don’t turn their fryers on on Sundays.

A view inside Pavlos’

The owner himself, Pavlos, came and chatted with us for a bit. Turned out that he is Greek. He came here in 1966 and has run Pavlos’ for 47 years. I said my one word of greek to him, he responded with the other word that I know and then started saying stuff that I had no clue about. My Greek is basically non-existent.

All in all, a good experience. I brought home the other half of my sandwich. And half of EC’s omelet – which was too big for her to finish. I am not sure when I will eat them, but they are going to be worked into my dining schedule somewhere.

We headed back to Kostas to check in on JC and TC and they had just recently gotten their food. The place was dead, so I have no idea why their food took so long. But it was what it was. EC and I sat in my car and talked about Rubens, who I know very little about. Still interesting, though. Eventually I went back inside and they were packed up and about ready to head out. We had a little fire drill because JC couldn’t find his debit and credit cards. Eventually their whereabouts were ascertained. Phew!

Since we didn’t have access to funds (no cards) we skipped the trip to Wegman’s this time and headed back to Geneva. We dropped EC off at the house and I took JC back to his rehab place.

I came home and did…nothing. Well, not exactly nothing, but you get the picture.

Soon, it will be time to eat. I have a lot of leftovers, I just need to decide which ones I would like to eat this evening!

Augustus for President: Maybe we will need two screens and therefore two computers – one with a running close captioning of what everyone is saying. And the other one for data and information. I also want to make clear at Town Hall type meetings that I am not there to debate, I am there to listen and to perhaps inform here and there. I have also decided that I will write to all the sitting governors and tell them that I will be visiting their fine states and ask for five minutes of their time to answer three questions – the same three questions that I will ask each and every member of congress when I become president. Will any of the governors answer? Doubtful. But it doesn’t hurt to ask. No answer is still an answer.

Still looking for an administrative assistant. It would be nice to find one who would be willing to go on my first trip with me. Separate rooms of course.

These look so much better now!

Happy Sunday! Almost half the month of September is over. Wow, time really does go faster the older you get. Sigh.

I got up and didn’t do much until I finally struggled out of bed to take a shower. And I even stripped the bed. And remade it. I used to watch TV when I was doing the bed. It seemed to make it go more easily. Recently, I have been listening to my book while I do the bed. Same thing. It really doesn’t take long to change sheets on the bed.

Off to pick JC up and take him to Auburn. I left the house when I wanted and got to JC’s on time. But…I need to adjust my time backwards a bit if I am going to keep doing this. It takes him a good fifteen minutes to get out the door. So we were a teeny bit late to pick TC up. I gave him a heads up though, when I realized that we were so far behind.

Because his team, the Steelers, was playing, we went back to Kostas again. No Sarah this time, we had Bethany. The food there is ok. Not scintillating. And it takes a long time. Or at least it has the two times that I’ve been there with the C’s. TC got the fish sandwich. JC got the fried shrimp. I got a deluxe hamburger. But I, or the server, or someone, forgot that the burger was supposed to have bacon. Or maybe I ordered the one without bacon and in my head wanted the one with bacon. Who knows. But it all eventually came together. Sadly, the bun they used was not very strong and basically disintegrated. That isn’t fun when trying to eat a burger. I think, if I go there again, I will ask for a firmer bread option. Maybe even an English Muffin. They seem pretty indestructible.

We went and did TC’s Wegman’s shopping and JC took his first spin on one of the electric shopping carts. I think he enjoyed that.

After dropping TC off we headed back to our neck of the woods.

I left them to their own devices – though one of their children was due in a couple of hours.

Back at home, my friend DM arrived and we have been chatting non stop! Woo hoo!

It is, though, time to make some food. No idea what we are doing for dinner. But we will figure something out.

Augustus For President: All I did today was bounce some thoughts of JC as we were driving to Auburn. Oh, and my brother/treasurer sent me more information on how to get the SEC to recognize that I am a candidate. I have to read it more closely to figure out what exactly I need to do. I think I have checked off most of the boxes at this point. It is the last step that is unclear. Maybe I will just call them on Monday!

I was almost very late to pick JC up for our trip to see TC in Auburn. I got carried away listening to my book (DCC – The Bedlam Bride) and lost track of the time. And I forgot when exactly I needed to leave to make the timing work out. I looked at my phone and realized I needed to leave in two minutes and I was still in bed. It usually takes me about five minutes to get from bed to street, so I was late, but only by a couple of minutes. Phew!

For lunch, I had found a diner that looked interesting. TC, though, had other plans. He is a football fan. And there were, of course, games on television this afternoon. He wanted to watch the Steelers (his team) versus the Jets. So we went to a sports bar that he and JC have apparently frequented in the past.

The menu was huge! TC had a gyro (how do you pronounce that word?)(I thought it was like “yeero”). JC had a seafood sampler. And I had a turkey club – which, if I don’t take other pictures tomorrow, I will use as my picture for the blog post. We had a server who they have had before. But service was a little slow. It took them a long time to bring me my curly fries, which was weird. But everything was tasty. I didn’t eat much because I stuffed myself full with a bunch of fries. And I had a beer with lunch. I will eat more of sandwich tonight for dinner and will add a teeny salad with it. Gotta be healthy now and again. (Well, I will also have more fries…)

Seen at the Irish festival – Deep fried Reuben!!

When dropping JC off back at his home, I stopped in to check on things. Two things that I had thought I was going to do today, I have put off until tomorrow so that I can bring my laptop. I like having my laptop with me when I have electronic or computer tasks to do – and there will be two. EC also wanted me to move some stuff around in their downstairs bedroom. Looks mostly easy, though one table might be a bit awkward for me to move by myself. If it is, it won’t get moved until later, but I can handle the rest of the stuff pretty easily.

Back home, I didn’t do much of anything. I have two scammers who I am chatting with. So far, neither has made particularly obvious scammer moves – no calls to change platforms or attempts at asking me for money. So it is interesting to see where they are going. I did do a teeny bit of Duolingo, but I am in good shape this week, so I’m not worried about falling out of the Diamond League for now.

Augustus for President: I realized that I do have a lot more stuff I can do before heading off on my tour of all the State Capitals. I guess if I haven’t gotten $5k in the right bank account by the middle of January next year (2026), I will just put it in myself. I would like to be an official candidate before I start sending off press releases. Which is one of the things I will want to do before hitting the road. I am still debating with myself whether or not I want to ask people about their thoughts on the phrase “The American Dream.” If I do, I might again write to all the sitting governors and living presidents to see if any of them will participate in the project this go round. Drumpf might because he would want to be in a book. Other than that, though, probably only a few of the governors will participate.
