Safely Home – Home is Safe

Here I am at one of my sort of favorite charging locations. Sort of favorite because I like it and don’t like it at the same time. It’s in Rotterdam NY, near Schenectady. The chargers are located at a gas station mini mart type place. So that’s a good thing. And right across the street is a fun BBQ place where I have gotten food a few times (not tonight, though). Those are the good things. The bad thing is that it is one of the chargers farthest (furthest?) from the Thruway. At least two miles. Not optimal. Well, Tesla has determined that I need to charge for half an hour at this stop (not a super fast charger (not that my car can charge at very high speeds, being an older one)) to allow me to get home with only one more supercharger stop. That’s an ok trade off to me, I think. Then again, maybe there aren’t a lot of superchargers between where I am now and the next one, in Verona NY at the Turning Stone Casino. I also have to charge there for a longish while. Fun times.

To be clear, I don’t really have range anxiety anymore. As long as I pay attention to what the Tesla is telling me, I get where I need to go without too much stress. What I do have anxiety over is the cost of supercharging as I mentioned the other day. The prices have come down a little already. It could be a seasonal difference actually. I don’t know. I don’t use supercharges except when I am on longer road trips.

This morning, I woke up around 7:30 am. I did my morning Duolingo – Italian today and then started getting ready to leave. I saw J as she passed in the hallway while I was stripping the bed. I like stripping beds. Making them is ok too. But I enjoy stripping beds more. And I packed up all my stuff. I think I need to purchase one more set of long underwear for next winter. Or maybe I will get some later this winter. But a fourth set would be good in any case. The suitcase was full of dirty laundry. And I had a bag with computer things in it. And lastly, my food bag – I am bringing home the remnants of the Chinese dinner we had the other night. I will eat that on Monday! So excited! Duck for days!! I also took my leftovers from last night’s yummy Thai dinner.

Oh, about that dinner. When J&P suggested Thai, I thought they meant the little teeny place near the Front Street Pub. But that wasn’t the case. It was the new-ish Thai place on High Street called Fon’s. (I met Fon herself!!) It was a nice, small place. Very clean and well appointed. It wasn’t very crowded on a Friday night at the end of their service. P&J shared soup and crab fried rice. We all shared samosas and “money bags.” I had drunken noodles with duck as the protein. And I had a Thai iced tea. Yum!

I ended up not going out last night. It was way too cold for me to make another foray out after dinner. And I was thinking I might be getting a teeny bit sick – since P&J both had colds. I stayed in and watched stuff on the computer and made it a relatively early night.

I hit the road around 8:30 I believe. And I have been making good time. I was told to stop at two new to me superchargers. At the second one, I bought myself a pizza. Sometimes I wonder about my math skills. I ought to have had the special, two cheese pizzas and a soda for $14 instead I got one pepperoni pizza for $11. Weird little pan pizza like pizzas. Tasty though. I will eat more of it at the Turning Stone stop I think. Though I might also take the long walk in and go the bathroom there.

Weird Little Place – that’s a train wheel, not a chocolate fountain

Ok, I’m home now and have more I could share. But I’m not going to. I would like to do some at home relaxing, if you all don’t mind.

Happy Saturday. The end is nigh!

I thought today would be a two dash day. Mondays are usually two dash days. So, barring strange unforeseen circumnstances, today was going to be a two dash day. But…

Things didn’t work out that way. I am not upset about it. It is only money. Instead, I am at home still and not out dashing at 4:45 pm. Life is that way sometimes.

My first dash was better than expected. It has been a long while since a Monday shift broke my second goal. Almost reached my third goal, only $.50 shy! And without too many long trips. In fact, I declined one long trip. It was late in the shift and it was to Phelps for not enough money. That’s one reason I keep my acceptance rate high – so I can decline iffy trips. I think the trips I got instead more than made up for the trip I declined. And I traveled a lot less. Which is a good thing. The cold does take a toll on distance in my electric car.

Oh, here’s a hypothetical. Say I was at a store. And there was an order I was picking up. But the identical order was sitting where orders sit, waiting to be picked up. For more than an hour. The one I was picking up was identical, contents and the person to whom it was being delivered. Also say that they were going to throw away the order that had been sitting for an hour. Perhaps I would have offered to take both orders with the initial intention of delivering both. Then, perhaps, thinking that they wouldn’t know that there were two identical orders, that I might keep the one that was going to be thrown away in case there was something yummy inside. Say donuts, which I almost never buy for myself… Is that a bad thing? I don’t think so…if it were to happen, that is…

At least instead of dashing I am reading. It is a pretty good book, actually. Called A Thread of Grace, it is about WWII towards the end of the war in Europe. I am so glad that I am not living in a war torn country.

And I am also playing with my new toy. Which is taking a really, really long time to set up. (I have no idea what it was doing with all that time…) Which is why I am not dashing. The set up took over my iPhone. Which I would need if I were to dash. I tried asking it to let me dash at the same time as it was doing the set up stuff, but that was not possible, apparently. Not sure why it couldn’t do what it needed to do in the background. Oh well. We will survive as best we can.

Oh, the pain in my face has basically gone back to how it was before. I am so sure that the cranberry/raspberry juice exacerbated the issue that I am going to pour the rest out. Despite my aversion to wasting food of any kind at any time. Speaking of which, where the heck did my last mini heath bar bites go? I can’t find them anywhere. And I am 80% certain I didn’t finish them…

Who roomba’d a lot today? Yes, that would be me. I did the living room again. And then I did the front hall and dining room. And I also did the kitchen. It sounds like both roombas have finished their work. I’m going to check and empty them and set them to charging.

I picked them both up and decided that it was time to do some roomba cleaning/maintenance. Since I have longish hair, roombas in my sphere tend to get that hair wrapped around all sorts of bits and pieces. And cleaning them up is pretty satisfying! I also found a pair of scissors that had been used and not put back. So exciting being a roomba wrangler!

Lots of gunk from the roombas!

Ok, Duolingo is done. There was a new type of lesson today in Japanese. One must pronounce everything to the computer’s liking. That was frustrating. I know I was saying it well enough for a person to understand. But the damn computer didn’t. Grr. Oh well.

Off to make and eat some dinner! Tonight, I am going to finish the duck. And have more pot stickers and pizza rolls. And I think I will break down and make some spinach – just simple – with bacon bits. I might add bread crumbs as well. Wow, there is actually a recipe for that. Who knew?

Happy Monday one and all!

Cool Car!

Before my time, but still cool. I wonder what was going on with it…

Why don’t I roomba every day? That is a fair question. I guess I just don’t get around to setting things up for it to do its duty while I am away. It isn’t really that noisy, but it is noisy enough to be less than optimal. I really ought to roomba everyday. But going forward I am going to try to roomba at least once a week. If not more often.

Not a great dashing day. Not terrible either. The second shift irked me a bit though. I got three bad rides in a row – the last being terrible, but it got me back to Geneva with a teeny bit of money. Then the algorithm had the audacity to offer me a fourth terrible ride in a row – even worse than the previous one – $5.50 for ten miles! Nope. I had to decline that one. Sigh. I hate declining. Oh, and door dash has gone the other way again, it is back down to 70% acceptance to be a top notch dasher. Grrrr.

Speaking of dashers, yes, this is gossip, but my favorite dashing duo has (have) broken up. For now? Who knows. But it is sad.

I am almost done with MacGyver. I don’t know what series to watch next. I will figure something out. I am still toying with the idea of getting Disney, etc. I think they have the Chuck series and I wouldn’t mind watching that again.

Guess what? The electrician didn’t come again today. Sigh. He promised 2 pm and then it was 2:30. At 2:45 I told him not to come. It will happen eventually I guess. I hope.

I have some cleaning and painting and stuff to do. In case I get someone who wants to come look at the house and potentially to stay here. That would be nifty. I was alerted that there was a lead in the database – but they want an apartment or a studio and my house isn’t either of those. Sigh. It will happen. Or it won’t.

My full retirement age is 67. I should live so long. I think my brother just reached retirement age – or maybe still has seven months to go. I am not sure.

Ok, enough drivel. Fear not, I will be interesting again, one day. Anything is possible…
