Got a bump on the head

When I woke up this morning it was raining pretty heavily. So I went back to sleep and stayed in bed. No actual bump was required to convince me that bed was where I wanted to be.

Roses are cool

After eventually waking up, I diligently played Hogwarts Legacy for a couple of hours. And I multi-tasked. I also worked on the defensive driving course. Man oh man is that thing tedious!!

It seemed endless!! I take lesson after lesson and they just keep coming. I thought I was further along when I started today, but I think I was still somehow only at 40%. It is really, really dumb as well. Not for some people. Some people ought to take the course every week until it sinks into their heads. For me, I learned from really good teachers – my mom was a good driver, MF was a good driver, my brother’s both were good drivers. So I had a lot of good examples. And I have taken driver safety in other situations. Not sure why. Anyway, it is dull and filled with information that any half competent driver ought to know and do. I will admit, that as a dasher, I have cut some corners here and there, but I always put safety first. Or a close fifth…

Next up, after playing and “studying” was lunch. Since I have so much of it, I have decided that I will have more of the quiche tart for lunches. And I think the Chinese food from the other night will go in that rotation as well. I think I have about three more lunches worth of quiche/tart. And one or two days of Chinese food.

I had a small list of things that I wanted to accomplish today and I think I accomplished them all. How cool is that. Out and about, I only had two – go to the bank for 2s (they didn’t have any) and to the library to pick up my latest hold – Dungeon Crawler Carl! So excited. This was a book I have had on hold for months!! I just have to finish the second in the Mistborn series first…only 378 pages to go! Eeek!

Back home, I made the calls I needed to make. I discovered that JC was in fact already on autopay for his trash removal. Yay. And I think I found a solution to JC’s trouble in logging onto his email from his laptop. I went to the HWS library and asked the IT people and they suggested loading the Outlook app onto his computer. Brilliant! I also called EC’s sister and closed that loop.

And, I continued to slog through the GD driving course. Sigh. Almost done. The end is in sight. I will finish today for sure!! Done! And of course, they can’t email the certificate. They have to snail mail it. Grrr. That’s another week or so I will have to wait. So dumb…

Tonight I am making tacos for dinner! It has been a while and I am looking forward to making and eating them! So excited!!

Thawed, nay Roasted!

Mostly good…

For my second time ever roasting a duck, this turned out pretty well. In my humble opinion. Sadly, I don’t know my back from my breast (I was never destined to be a doctor) so the skin that ought to have been crispiest, wasn’t. That could also have been from insufficient pokage. Where I did not do enough poking to allow the fat from under the skin to cook out. Sigh. I will do better next time. Because, trust me, I will do this again. I get a few pounds of meat and boy howdy is it yummy.

I even had seconds. I debated between posting the picture of the duck and the picture of my first plate. I did a deep fried potato that I learned about a while back. It turned out well. I think, though, that it might be time to change the fry oil again.

Today was not a busy day. I didn’t do anything on the GLO spreadsheet because my co-board member hasn’t given me an updated spreadsheet yet. I hope he does it soon. But if he doesn’t, we will persevere. He also didn’t keep the calculated fields for the zip codes. Which are a bit above his pay grade, understandably.

Most of my day was spent playing Wasteland 3. The more I learn about it, the more I like it. The warfare system is so laborious, though. I guess when I get more facile with where everything is and what controls are where in the interface, it will become easier. It really is a lot like even the current iterations of Fallout. Fixing Toasters…I don’t think we really did that in Fallout 4 (but we could have).

Tomorrow is another fun filled day, no doubt. Laundry, trash, bed changing, out to dinner with friends. Sounds like a great day to me!

House of Cards and Still Alice

Recently finished watching the first season of House of Cards. Yes, it is good stuff. But it feels slightly like The Sopranos for some reason – rooting for the bad guys maybe? Or the theme music perhaps? Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright are both enjoyable to watch. Neither of them “chews the scenery” as a good friend of mine says of over acting. I will probably watch the second season. Don’t know if I will go much further than that, though…

Ok, fallen into another obsession: Fallout Shelter. This is a game app for phones that is based on the popular Fallout Video Game series. Way too fun. I have already given up on one Vault and am hard at work on my second. Hopefully this too shall pass because I am barely able to not play. That is not a good thing. What is good, besides the fun of the game, is that I learned how to take a screenshot of my phone!

Mom had a good day today – she seemed full of the desire to explore – and she ate a lot at lunch time. Good signs.

Last night, I watched Still Alice – mom sort of watched it. I thought it was ok, Julianne Moore did a good job, but it was sort of light on showing the ickiness of the disease. From diagnosis to the end of the movie, I am guessing a year or maybe two elapsed at most. It was early onset, so I don’t have any personal experience with that, but I am guessing that mom was cognitively impaired since at least 77 years old – if not longer. She is 85 now – 8 years. In the four years that I have been helping out, I have certainly seen quite a decline. But at this rate, I am guessing it will be 2 to 4 years before she loses command of language. And then maybe 4 more years before Alzheimer’s kills her. In all I am guessing she has 10 more years of life – such as it is. Sigh (for her, for me, for all the world and especially those dealing with Alzheimer’s in any way, shape or form…)!

JRPG

I am playing a(n) JRPG right now. I haven’t played many before maybe two or three. I love the graphics, I love the characters (lots of stronger female characters). (Is it wrong to have a crush on a video game character. Except for her Australian accent, Fang makes my heart go pitter pat. I really need a life.) The story is pretty good. But the combat is a little on the weird side. Still, overall, enjoyable. I started playing Final Fantasy (um, some number) after I gave up on Call of Duty Advanced Warfare. I tried really hard to enjoy it, and sometimes I did. But mostly I found it frustrating. Too much jumping around and no weapon that had the right balance of accuracy, firing speed and damage. Oh well. It’s just a game.

Today is, finally, Saturday. I have turned the wedding over to three staff members. There is a movie tonight for which I am on call – and will pop down to talk to whoever is projecting through the DVD process in case they have forgotten – and because I have tweaked it a little bit. We did not have a great turnout last night – which isn’t surprising for several reasons – 1) not a movie with much name recognition here in Geneva, NY, 2) There was a transformer explosion and fire beside the Smith last night – and somehow we retained power 3) the weather was a bit on the threatening side and 4) it is a movie at the Smith. Casablanca did ok for an under organized event. I am hoping that we will be able to increase the audience considerably for the next movies in the series. I have also started planning July’s movies. And there is a bit of work I can do for the Smith today and tomorrow. Mostly working with Theatre Manager. Huzzuh.

So, I went in to work after all and did a little stuff. Sigh. I will do more from home as well. Not a lot, it is Saturday, after all…
