Another of those darn Productive Days

Me at maybe 5 years old? Kindergarten maybe?

In sorting through a box of assorted crap, mostly computer and phone related cables, I came upon a lanyard that I got back in 2018. A Kennedy Space Center lanyard. I thought maybe it would be good to use with my Presidential (in content, maybe not in style and class) name badge. Sadly, the lanyard was too long in its current configuration. If I decide to use it, it will have to be shortened. The lanyard put the badge at below my waist level…

In this same sorting, I came across a few CDs. I am going to try and find my external CD/DVD drive for my laptop and see if I can upload these CDs to my computer. If I haven’t already. They could be ones that I already added to my personal library. They aren’t. I checked. And I found the drive but the special cables for it have gone missing. Sigh.

Lots of little things to do today. A couple of car things – WD-40 the windshield wipers and put rain-ex on all of the external cameras. (see below) I want to unbox my tape measure. (see below) Clean out my email. (Done) Maybe watch some of a documentary about the Kogie people in the Andes mountains. (Probably not) And maybe start work on a graphic for the trip. (Hopefully later tonight) We shall see how far along we get on this todo list on this “doing” Sunday.

I tried to turn my new tape measure on and it wasn’t working. I unscrewed the battery cover and discovered the reason. No batteries. And it didn’t ship with batteries. What the heck is that about? How expensive would it to be to add a couple of AAA batteries? Sigh. Anyway, it is working now and is totally cool. Turn it on, zap the laser and it tells you how far away something is. Wow. And I just changed the Units to Feet. I wonder if there is a Feet and Inches option instead of the Feet and decimal parts of a foot. How many inches is .34 feet? (about four inches I guess…)

It is too cold and wet to do the WD-40 windshield wipers thing today. And it doesn’t look like the weather is going to be any better in the next 10 days. So, maybe I will take the WD-40 with me on the road and when the weather gets warm enough, do the WD-40 thing on the wiper blades then. This is something that I saw on YouTube that looked like it made sense.

Well, triple poo. My 2022 Tesla Model 3 must be from the beginning of the year because it has the old computer chip and the old AI/FSD computer. Why is that triple poo? It just is. Ok, it’s because a) I can’t run FSD, b) I can’t run Grok and c) it just sucks for those two reasons. So maybe it is only a double 💩

Such good stuff got done today overall. Yes, it is cold and wet and unpleasant outdoors. But inside the house it isn’t so bad. I have done most of my todo list. Then I got a message from the system saying that Apple wanted to update my laptop’s system. But there wasn’t enough room. I decided to see what all was taking up so much space. One thing was a movie that I downloaded a long time ago from when I was working at the Smith. Trashed it. Then there were some other movies from other times of my life. I am saving those to my super large thumb drive. One of them, it turns out, has the Alice in Wonderland scene/ movie on it. Actually there might be three copies of it on my computer at this point. The name of the file was deceptive which is why I couldn’t find it. The file was called DVD Video Recorder. What it is is a digitized version of a VCR tape that was sent to me when I asked to have a bunch of old home movies (and Alice) transferred from 8mm and super 8mm film to video tape. Because at the time, there wasn’t much in the way of large inexpensive storage for computers besides video tape – back in the early 2000s I think. Maybe as late as 2012. Maybe. Anyway, the good news is that I found the Alice thing and will be posting it on YouTube at some point in the not too distant future. How exciting is that? Let me answer that question for you. Very exciting!!

Oops, I started copying more large files onto my huge thumb drive (two terrabytes) and it is taking forever. Luckily I can do other things while they are copying in the background.

It is getting onto the third part of the day. I am about to do my Duolingo. And then I will make some dinner. More chicken and asparagus I think. Debating the salad and french fries…

Augustus for President: After dinner, I think I will start working on the multimedia part of my 50+1 Capital Tour (which is going to cost me around $12k if I had to guess – maybe more). I plan to post on YouTube, Facebook, and Threads. I don’t know about TikTok. Or X (🤮). Oh, and Blue Sky. Anyplace else that people who vote might see the posts?

I feel like I am making some good progress on both the campaign and in preparations for the trip. I am still sad that I can’t find anyone crazy enough, er, smart enough to come on this once (well, twice for me so far) tour of all 50 states. Frustrating.

Shameless appeal for money: Bernie raised about $200m in each of his two campaigns. I don’t think he had super pacs or anything like that besides the amount he and his campaign raised. That seems like a good target for the end of next week. Hahaha, just joking. I have much smaller goals. I would like to raise $5000 as quickly as I can. If I can raise that much, I think I can raise whatever else is needed, eventually.

Yes, I would love your support. Those who have supported me thus far (both of you), thank you. Those who haven’t – each person can give up to $3300 per candidate per election. Just saying…(link is the name of this section above)

New To Me Place to Eat!

I did not sleep well. But I expected that and dealt with it. I could, though, use a nap. And I haven’t gotten enough of one. Maybe I will try to get to sleep as close to midnight as possible. We shall see.

After waking up, I did a lot of nothing, as usual. I did some Duolingo. The tryhards were dominant in this week’s leaderboard. I did almost twice as much Duolingo this week as I usually do and I am barely in the top ten heading to the last week of the tournament. Not that I really care either way. I am just happy that I will stay in the diamond league! When will I let me streak collapse? Someday, I am sure.

I also played a little bit. I tried the first flying trial and didn’t do too well. I really do need practice flying if I am to get any of the flying trials completed. I did a couple other things as well. I may play more tonight.

Eventually, I got out of bed, did my morning ablutions and headed off to pick JC up for his lunch date with his son. I got to the house and we had a few minutes. I took the time to ensure that JC had the Outlook app on his computer. He did! I updated it. And then launched it. It was already on his task bar at the bottom of his screen. It still asked me for the two stage security, but after that, it was smooth sailing. I wonder what will happen tomorrow. All in all, though, it is a lot fewer steps that JC was having to execute going to the mail from his web browser.

We got to Auburn on time and picked TC up. He was amenable to trying a new to me (and JC) place. Apparently he had been there before. Which isn’t surprising since he lives in Auburn…It was pretty empty in there, which was a nice change from the busy-ness that we had last week at Prison City. Fairly big menu. Everyone found something they could eat. I chose a Reuben, knowing that it was going to be OK at best. Why? Because it was on toast and not grilled. Why make a Reuben if you aren’t going to grill it. It was tasty – not enough Swiss cheese, imho. And the fries are the kind that you can tell if they are done or not – double dipped or not. They will be double dipped when I have the other half of the sandwich!

Good but would not recommend – I like my Reubens grilled!

After getting back to JCs house, we checked that he could get into his email. He could. If he remembers to click on the envelope icon and not the icon he thinks he needs to click on. Sigh. And we also did some emailing, sending CC, BG and me copies of his Haiku document. I finally learned, I think, how to add an attachment to an email in Outlook. It is funny how easy things are once you learn how to do them.

I headed back home and didn’t do much. I read a little and I did take about half an hour’s worth of nap. I could have used more. At some point, I swapped out my winter, flannel sheets (four sets) for four sets of non-flannel sheets for the summer and fall seasons. So excited! Made the bed and got the laundry ready to launder. When I head downstairs in a few minutes to make more tacos (I bought some different corn tortilla shells), I will put the laundry in. I like doing things in a manner that makes me use as little motion as possible. Yay laziness!

Happy Sunday! Happy first week of June! I am doing my accounts tonight and expect a huge drop in free cash since I paid for the last half of the School Taxes from my checking account. Capitalism sucks.

Tiny Centerpiece!

What a cute tiny Centerpiece!

Happy Sunday! I hope that you are having a pleasant one. I am! I got up, did some duolingo (I don’t think I am in danger of dropping out of the diamond league – but I will keep checking until closer to the end of the period) and then went back to sleep. Yay sleep!

Now I have accomplished a couple of little tasks. And am about to play. Then lunch. Then, who knows!

Oh, well, I know. I am supposed to help SM with some computer stuff. Then we are supposed to go out to dinner. I suggested three places that we have been to before. The one place I want to try is still closed on Sundays. Though the bartender mentioned that in the summer they might open up on Sundays as well. We shall of course see.

I asked my boarder when she thought she might be leaving. Well, I actually asked her how long her project was. She said long term. Which wasn’t very helpful. I still think she is working at the construction up on 5&20. Maybe one day I will know for sure…

Back from my errands. I went to Harbor Freight and got the other shape of tread – a square. And it is too big for my stairs. I asked the cashier what I could use to cut it and she was not very helpful. I realized that tin snips would do the trick. Sadly, when I went to look for the tin snips that used to be in the basement, I couldn’t easily put my fingers on them. Grrr. I did find a small pair pruning shears that might do the trick. Teeny little nips. I will measure tomorrow and then snip, snip, snip away.

Getting SM’s computer issues resolved was pretty easy. Next up, sometime, adding an email account to her phone. Unfortunately it isn’t an iPhone, so I will have to figure out how to do it on her phone. I am sure it can be done, but I just don’t know how.

We went to Deluxe Grill for dinner first. Only to discover they had been open for Mother’s Day brunch and were closed for dinner. So we went to Anorah instead.

B doesn’t work there any more. One reason not to go there again. We ordered our meals, pasta for her and a pulled pork sandwich for me. Both were ok, not great. And although I asked for the fries to be extra crispy – they were not. And to top it off, SM thought it was not a good meal for the cost. So, down to the bottom of our dining list it goes! Not a big loss.

And now I am home. I need to finish up the laundry I started but that’s about all I have on the docket for the rest of the evening. Tomorrow is the start of another exciting week! And I get to pick JB up at the airport on Monday. Am I the luckiest or what?
