I Love Sox!!

To Ramekin or not ramekin, that is the question. I don’t know that J has enough ramekins for the chocolate lava cakes. The recipe I am looking at calls for 6 of them. I know she has one. Maybe a few more glass dishes that are ramekin like. The recipe did say that a muffin tin could also be used in a pinch and I know that J has at least one muffin tin. I didn’t think ahead about this otherwise I would have brought my four ramekins (I think that’s how many I have) or brought some of my muffin tins. I think I have at least three tins of varying sizes. Well, we will do what we can. The whole thing is supposed to take half an hour to make, which means an hour for unprepared and infrequent cooks like me. I guess it might be a late night snack since we won’t be having dinner, if we go out today, there was snow, until around 7:30. Which means 8:30. And then an hour drive back. Which makes 9:30. Oh, but I can make the batter ahead of time…hmm. There’s a thought. Maybe I will make the batter at some point today and then all I will need to do is bake them…

Nope, didn’t make the batter ahead of time. It seemed like we were all going to just go to bed after getting back from dinner so making the chocolate lave cakes was not going to happen tonight. I will make them tomorrow.

Yes, we got some snow. Not the devastating huge snow storm that was prognosticated. Though it isn’t over yet. And who knows how hard hit the rest of Maine was. Nope, ended up being a not too terrible an event around here. Woo hoo!

P has is developing a game that is based loosely on scrabble tiles. It keeps changing. We played a few rounds this afternoon. After we were done, P came up with another, good, rule change. He is teaching himself python so he can make a program out of it. Rock on!

Before heading to dinner at a place south of us, we had a present opening session. I did not give particularly good presents to my nephew and his spouse but the ones I did give were slightly better than nothing. They gave me great socks!! Lots of great socks. J&P also gave me good things. And I think my few presents were decently well received.

Birthday dinner

Dinner was good. I was minorly miffed because my steak was over cooked. But I asked the party to have a vote and the consensus was that I shouldn’t complain. Poo. I brought it home anyway. And some other bits. It’ll make an ok lunch meal I guess. Fun evening.

All in all, I think we all had a pleasant Christmas Eve and sister/mom/spouse birthday.

Augustus for President: I felt naked being out in public without my badge. I am a teeny bit upset with myself for forgetting to wear it. I will admit to being a bit distracted. The place we were going to dinner was an hour away on potentially unhappy roads, the family was not moving with any urgency and I didn’t pack the shirt I had thought I had packed so that I would look sort of presentable at dinner. And I forgot the badge. Poo.

I did ask G about possible attorneys general and she said she had some thoughts. And that if she did get a role in my government, she wanted to be solicitor general. Sold!

Ominous Weather on All Hallow’s Eve!

This is just about the worst weather that little kids and parents could have for Halloween trick or treating. It is a Friday night, but…if I were a little kid, I would say “hey mom or dad, please go trick or treating for me – i’ll stay in and read…” It could happen…

Here we are on a “do things” Friday! Woo hoo! I do like doing things. And I did a lot. Well, I think I did a lot. And I forgot one thing, but I will do that on Monday. So here we go – are you ready?

I got up and got out at around 10:30 am. I had gotten out the grinch outfit and had it airing all night. It didn’t feel musty when I put it on. Yay. One of my pointy shoes is breaking – but I don’t blame it – it is probably 50 years old. I decided to wear long underwear under the costume which ended up bing very wise.

Down at JC and EC’s I helped JC with his phone. Yes, learning a new phone at 87 is not an easy task. He may get it, he may not. I have done what I can to make it easier for him. He had been getting a lot of solicitations for money. I took a few minutes and unsubscribed him from maybe 40 email lists. I know that some of those lists just spawn other lists, but I think we can eventually get it down to a small number that he will be bugged by. He still doesn’t understand about voicemail. I can’t figure out how to make the icons in the app any bigger. It will be what it will be.

Then, around 11:45 am we had a conference call with CC to see if we could come up with a plan to move forward. It took a few minutes but I think we are settled on them leaving the area in January of next year. I just hope nothing terrible happens between now and then. Fingers crossed.

From there, I headed into town. First stop, can and bottle return. I got $5.15 back. Woo hoo! Rich, rich I tell you!! Then the library. I had two books waiting for me and picked them both up. I gave Fred one of my presidential stickers and he laughed. Not sure it was a good laugh or not. I will check in with him later. I had originally thought I would go to both banks today, well, two out of three banks, but decided against doing any of them. Maybe next year. Yes, dressing up as the Grinch has become something of a Halloween tradition for me.

Last stop, Wegman’s. I had a little bit of shopping to do. And I decided to treat myself to some Wegman’s sushi for lunch. I think I scared a few people today with the costume. The mask is really scary. Anyway, I got my groceries and made it back to the car without anyone screaming.

At home, I quickly snarfed my food, having realized that I forgot to do early voting. I like to do early voting when I can. Ran into KC there. And told a few people that I was running for president in 2028. Unfortunately, I forgot about the other thing, taking the ticket to the courthouse. Why did I forget? No brain? That’s probably part of the reason. I didn’t put it on my calendar is the main reason. No reminder. That problem has been rectified for Monday. Yippee!

Back home again, it was good to get out of the outfit. Especially the shoes and the damp socks. I really don’t like having wet feet. So, I am not putting the outfit back on tonight for dinner. I think SM will be happier if I am not sharing dinner with her as the Grinch.

Oops, SM forgot what night we were having dinner. Oh well. Maybe we will get together on Sunday. I had a pleasant time at the place anyway. Met a lovely couple from North Carolina who knew a lot about beer.

Augustus for President: Told a bunch more people I am running for president. I think I only gave out three stickers though. If I can convince the bank to change the name and tax payer ID on the bank account, I will try to do three events this month. All on one weekend. I think three small events: one at the library, one at the gelato place and one at the cracker factory – if it is having it’s Sunday night open thing. I will need to check with all three to make sure that I can do that. And I will have to do posters and set up events on my website, on Facebook – I guess I need a Facebook page for the campaign – and keep posting about it on Threads and BlueSky and Instragram and maybe, ick, X.
