Typical Augustus Sunday

People are so funny/odd. I had a nibble for my room. I wanted $1150 a month for it. The person wanted to pay $1000 for the first month and if he stayed pay $1050 for the next two months. Which totals $3100. I said how about you pay what I ask for the first month. And if you stay, $1050 for the second month. And $900 the last month. Which totals $3100. He wrote me and told me it was too much money. Meanwhile he is staying in a hotel which must be costing him more than $30 a night…as I said, people are funny/odd…Whatever. As I told J last night – the money would be nice and helpful. But having the house to myself is also great. I win either way. It seems like he loses if he has to stay in a hotel for longer than a few days. Sigh.

What have I been doing so far today? Reading. That’s all. And a little bit of playing on my phone. I do have a few things I would like to do today – like paint a little in the green bathroom. For some reason, painting the tub with enamel paint is daunting to me. Maybe it’s because I have to mix two bottles of liquid together and then the leftover will be useless soon after. It feels like a waste. But that is also on my list. Has been for months, actually.

I got an estimate for the tree. It was almost $5000. I will send it to CB at the colleges eventually. Maybe their tree people are less expensive. I certainly don’t want to do it this year. I want to whittle my HELOC down a tad more before adding substantially to it over a tree.

Is the lumpy white better than rust color?

This afternoon, I actually did the two painting jobs I had been putting off for weeks! Go me! The green paint job isn’t great, but it will do. And as I asked in the caption to the picture – is the white better than the rust color? I think it looks terrible. But I guess it is better than the rust. Barely. Since I have 24 hours to use the “paint” I will do another coat in the morning. And then one during my lunch break. At least that is my current plan.

Today has been a typical Sunday. Nice and relaxing. I am almost finished with the first of the three books I got out of the library. I did a load of laundry (ok, it is in progress). The sheets are changed. I am showered and beautiful. (Ok, showered) I have done my Duolingo and am far up the totals list that I have no fear of being kicked out of the league. But not so far up that I entered the tournament. I just have no interest in the tournaments. Too many people trying way too hard for my taste.

Food. One of my favorite topics. Does that make me shallow? Last night SM and I went to Simply Crepes in Canandaigua. She was not pleased overall. We both loved the brussels sprouts appetizer (she took the leftovers of that home). She had hash brown cakes for her entree that she seemed to enjoy. But she thought her dessert crepe was rubbery. I find most crepes to be rubbery so it didn’t matter to me. I ate some of my food there and as usual brought about half of it home with me. I ate some more for lunch and will have some of the dessert crepe for dessert tonight.

Dinner will be a hamburger again. I didn’t really taste the cream cheese in the hamburger on Friday. I will try that again and see if adding more helps. In any case, dinner is hamburgers, some fried stuff and a salad. I will be trying the bottled store bought caesar dressing for the first time. Wish me luck!

Who knows what day it is really? I mean, does it really matter? Does the universe care what day it is? Who knows? I certainly don’t.

I was slow getting started today. I had some fun dreams that of course I can’t recall just now. Still, I like to have intense dreams. Makes me feel like my sleeping time isn’t wasted.

Eventually, I managed to raise my weary head. And I read. I am burning through this book. When I looked it up, it gave a synopsis that seemed to give the whole story away. But it didn’t actually. The story is much deeper and more nuanced and more tragic than the blurb that was written. I am enjoying it very much. And look forward to the other two books I have from the same author, Mary Doria Russell. This book is The Sparrow. Science fiction, btw.

I took no pictures today, so here’s one I took a few days ago

After I stopped reading, I decided I need to trim the bush/tree thingie that the city wanted trimmed. I took three tools to do the job: a hedge trimming pair of sheers, a strong pair of limb cutters and eventually my chainsaw. None of the branches were really cuttable by the sheers. The limb cutters did a couple decently. But the chainsaw was the hero of the afternoon. I hope it is enough for the city. I will ask them once I get a clear signal from HWS whether or not they are going to take responsibility for the sidewalk (that they installed).

Lunch next. Boring again. But tomorrows lunch will be more interesting…more later.

After lunch, I called J and had a lovely chat. She was doing much better. And I got a tentative invitation to Christmas. That would be nice. And it is looking like Thanksgiving will be a pleasant night at home. Deep fried Turkey (breast) here I come. Though maybe I will do a leg this time. We shall see.

More reading. As I said, I would like to get through this book, enjoyable as it is, and get to books about which I know nothing except that they were written by the same author.

Eventually it was time to head to SM’s house. I did a little bit of lugging – things to the basement etc. On the way to the Crepe place in Canandaigua, we talked about her adventures. We never did get to see the cool costume she made for one of her grandchildren. At the restaurant, which was not very busy for a Saturday night at 6 pm, we talked about my most recent trip. I really did have a good one.

We ordered way too much food. The brussels sprouts were great. My turkey crepe was good – but way too much food. And I also ordered a Boston creme dessert crepe – which I didn’t finish. I will eat these for lunch tomorrow, at least. Maybe Monday too! So much food! And good conversation!

Now I am home – I have done my duolingo and will now turn off my brain for a while. Happy Saturday!
