Another Typical Sunday!

I really need to bring snacks with me when I travel by car. Oh well, maybe I will remember next time. If there is a next time. I mean, when I next travel long distance by car.

Speaking of cars, I definitely will be buying a new to me car this year. I am really tired of my poor Tesla Model 3 being a standard range vehicle.

So far, it has been a quiet day. I got up and did little until heading to EC’s to set up an opera for them to listen to. I thought their TV was a Roku television, but it wasn’t. Not sure what it was in terms of operating system. But they didn’t have a soundcloud app. They did have an internet browser option and I did that. In sound cloud, I search for the composer and the title and couldn’t find them either way. Instead, I just typed in the whole URL – which luckily wasn’t impossibly long. And it worked! Huzzuh! I also printed out the libretto. Getting the printer to print from my laptop was much easier than I thought it would be. And it printed two sided!

Back at home, I did my normal stuff – lunch – the last dolmades and three chicken wings – shower, change sheets. The laundry is all folded and put away.

More Pow Wow pictures!

My second trip to visit JC and EC didn’t happen. Not surprised actually, since I am sure JC was tired after his visit with TC. So, I have been just puttering around and trying to get the computer stuff for GLO organized. I haven’t done it in a year and needed to look and see how the final sheets looked.

So this week that is the big thing – the GLO shows. After the shows, I will talk to GR about leaving the board. I just don’t like having the commitment hanging over my head.

No big plans for tonight. Just dinner – I think I am making empanadas. And then deep thoughts.

Augustus for president: I wrote another snappy answer for why people should vote for me – I am not them – i.e. I am not the billionaire or even millionaire class. Nor am I a career politician who can seem sincere and then turn around and vote for crappy legislation – because they don’t want to lose their position…grrrr.

Not what I expected for the day

That was different. When I went to sleep last night I was looking forward to a day of dashing – no fuss, no weirdnesses. Just two dashes and then some dinner. That was my plan. It might not have been exciting, but it would have been pleasant I think. Not that my day was not still pleasant, it was. But it was much different than I had planned.

To begin with, my first dash was very odd. I only did 9 offers. That isn’t very many. But I did really well financially! That was weird. A couple of long drives that were well compensated. And I had a ride that took me back to Geneva from Waterloo. And then I kept getting rides while I was a long distance from the pickup location. Door Dash adds quite a premium to those which is nice. All in all, I drove a decent amount and made out well. I even quit about half an hour early. Why? Well…

As I was getting ready to head out to my first dash, I got a text from JC asking if I could spare an hour to help him with computer stuff. I said I could, which adjusted my whole day’s plans. That’s why I quit early, so I would have some time to eat lunch and maybe charge a bit before heading to JC’s.

My main task there was to help him change his email password. He says this happens anually. Whereas EC says that she has not been required to change her password for as long as she can remember. Weird since they both worked for the same place and have their email addresses through that place. It was actually pretty straightforward and easy to do – for me. I can see why JC had a hard time doing it. After we finished with the email, we worked on getting rid of captions on their TV. They have a complex set-up: TV, Spectrum Cable Box, and Apps on the TV. Of course there were at least three places to turn off captioning. Which was a bit beyond JC’s brain acceptance level. We got them all turned off for now. I’ve told them to call me if they want them turned on or are watching an app that still has them on. I doubt they will take me up on that, but at least I offered.

From there, I headed home and opted to charge until 4 pm. Good thing I did! I got one bad ride for my first ride. It wasn’t terrible, it just wasn’t at least $5. My next ride was a surprise: a lot of money to pick up from a place I didn’t think did door dash and to drive it up towards Phelps. One doesn’t learn the destination until after one has accepted an offer. The Deluxe Grill just started doing Door Dash. So I think that Door Dash is making sure the first few orders from there get delivered. So they paid me a large amount to drive the order to Clifton Springs. Which is not too far from Phelps. Which meant I could ask SS, my erstwhile helper, if she still wanted a ride – and wanted it today instead of tomorrow. Which she did.

I drove to Clifton, dropped off the food and then picked SS up in Phelps. There was a bit of road that was extremely slippery which neither of us liked too much. She got her prescription at Walmart and agreed with my notion to take a safer route back to Phelps. It was a couple of minutes longer, but it is a much busier route – so the roads were better! Huzzuh!

By the time I had done all that driving, I was down to about 18% charge. I decided I was done dashing and headed to Los Amigos to get food for dinner. It’s waiting for me in the oven keeping warm. Woo hoo!

All in all, a profitable and a good day. Not what I had expected. And so far, I have not been punished for my good deed. Beyond not getting any $ from SS for the ride. I saved her $40+ dollars in Uber and not a whisper of offering any recompense. Sigh. Kids these days…

Well that’s just not fair. I’m playing a cryptogram app on my phone and the puzzle turned out to have the whole first sentence of the answer in Latin. What kind of crap is that? Grrrr

The lake was getting whipped by the wind!

Unimpressed with Impress from Open Office (and more)

So, here’s the 411. We have an event on Friday (it may be Friday when I publish this) that is a high school graduation. They gave me some files that they wanted to have projected. No problem. We can do that. I thought, heck, why not use one of the laptops we bought so that I won’t have to use my computer for the event, especially since I am not going to be at the event, my staff will. I thought that Open Office had a presentation piece of software. It does. Impress by name. Yippee! I go to put the thumb drives into the laptop so that I can get the information off, and the laptop doesn’t read the thumb drives. Sigh. I have a call into our tech support guy, but he hasn’t responded. Work around – upload to Drop Box and download onto the laptop. Slow network at home means a 5 hour upload time! Eeek! But I do it. All the files are on the laptop, finally. Open impress and try to import a graphic – comes in wonky. I try again – message – no graphic filter found. Sigh. I try a video – mp4 is not a supported format (contrary to what the open dialogue shows for supported formats). Poo.

On my mac – it took me about three minutes to put the files on my computer and to build a presentation. Sigh. I have exported it to Powerpoint and am downloading a Powerpoint reader (which almost never works – oops, it didn’t). I went to work to get a CD to record onto – forgetting that CDs only hold 700mb of data and the powerpoint is 1.75 gigs. Sigh. Plan M?, heck, I don’t know, L? I tried the thumb drive again and it magically worked. Yay and poo at the same time. I have the file on the PC now – and am downloading a reader from Microsoft. Fingers crossed and breath held. Almost there – needed to download Quicktime since Keynote converted the video files. But it worked. A little slow the first time through, so whoever is running the presentation will have to go through it once or twice to get it into memory. How exciting!

In other news, mom took a teeny tumble. We got her back on her feet readily enough. And there was no harm done that I or the aide could determine. Yay!

More than I reckoned

It doesn’t happen often that I get more than I bargained for, at least in a good way. It does happen, but somehow my brain isn’t wired to retain happy memories as well as it is wired to retain unhappy ones. Anywho, the other week, I decided to order The Wizard of Oz book from the internet. I had gotten a copy out of the library to read to mom. It was a rerelease of the original with the drawings and everything. Hard to read sometimes, because of the illustrations, but it was fun having them. I found a copy on the internet of The Complete Wizard of Oz, which I thought was a weird name for the book, but ordered it anyway. Instead of getting just one book, I got all of the Oz books! Sans illustrations, which is sad, but way more than I thought I was getting. Mom and I have lots to read in the coming eons.

Weirdness abounds. I am feeling kinda out of sorts. First off, Match.com charged me $122 for six months! Eeek! That is ludicrous. I have cancelled my account. Second, the Smith continues to have water problems – we are all working on fixing them or repairing the damage that has occurred. We are supposed to get more rain tonight. Huzzuh. Next, my computer just froze in a very odd way. Everything seemed to be working except for the mouse. Weird. Lastly, sound issues at the Smith. The amp that has been flaky – the most important one of course, the one through which dialogue comes in our set-up, is browning out. I don’t know how to fix it. I will vacuum it out tomorrow – and if I can easily swap wires I will use it for the sub woofer and the sub woofer amp for the main amp until I get a new one to replace it or get it fixed. I think the latter is more likely than the former. And I had a very weird experience. Sound from the new DVD player suddenly flaked on me. I will call Oppo tomorrow or at least check on line. We aren’t showing another DVD until July as far as I recall, so I ought to have time to repair it or figure out what the problem is. It worked for the afternoon movie and then didn’t work for the evening movie. I jury rigged sound by taking the rca outputs and running that through our movie sound system. Luckily the sound comes out in Stereo that way, so the surround sound center speaker was bypassed. Phew. I was going to try running the sound through our PA, but I didn’t have time. My projectionist was half an hour late with no excuse. I told him that this was his last warning. Next time he is being let go. And he has come such a long way. Sigh.

Yay! Spilled cream sherry (yes, I like sweet sherry – live with it) on my computer! Sparks and smelly electrical smell did not occur. Woo hoo!

Ok, probably obsessed (is there a difference? I think so…). And I will survive. About what am I obsessed you may ask. Good question. Social Media. Yes, I spend a decent amount of time on Facebook. I am going to look and see if I can find an app usage tracker for my mac to see how much time I spend on there. Hmm, I wonder if it will be able to tell what page I am looking at in my browser. Or just give me browser time. And I need one for my iPhone as well. I bet I spend 60 hours a day on Instagram and Snapchat. I don’t post a lot to either of them, but I do ogle lots of stuff on both. Twitter just has never appealed for some reason.

I think Android has an app that observes app usage and then puts frequently used apps together in one place. I am too lazy to do it manually, but I ought to. I am sure I am wasting lots of precious viewing seconds changing between apps. Sigh. Don’t like to waste time. Ok, I’m lying, I really don’t mind. No time is ever really wasted. I mean, time just passes and there isn’t a lot we can do about it (except change our perception of time…). I will say, though, that this week has been going glacially.

Ooh, mom has a doctor’s appointment today. I am going to ask him about mom’s complaining about being in pain and about nursing homes in the area. As I think I may have mentioned, I think mom is too far along for assisted living. Or maybe not. Who knows? And goodness knows I am not ready to think about next steps. Just thinking about mom not being able to swallow (which could happen one day with this oh so lovely disease) makes me choke up for a second.

Started listening to the Wheel of Time series on Audiobook again. And will do so until someone suggests a good book that I can find on audio. I tried to find War and Peace on audio and didn’t succeed at my local library. Yup, I have never read War and Peace. Sue me.
