Lots of Pillows!

Lots of pillows to help me sit up straight closer to the “TV”

What do we call watching TV now? I for one don’t watch a lot of TV in real time. A few live streams here and there. But I certainly don’t spend the bulk of my time on ABC, CBS and NBC. Do people still do that? When I am watching streaming things, I could be watching anything from a streaming platform or service. I spend a decent amount of time on YouTube. And I have a few streaming services that I watch routinely. Can I just still say “watching TV?” If there is some new vernacular, please let me know.

My ambition for the week is to have my bedroom roomba ready. To be honest, I don’t think this room has ever been Roomba ready. It shouldn’t be that hard. Most of the “mess” is clothes that haven’t been put in their proper places. Pants in a pants drawer. Shirts hung up in the closet. That sort of thing. And then I will go on “wire patrol” to see if I can nip any trouble spots in the butt, er, bud before setting a roomba to work.

Charging my phone in my car ought to be an easy thing. I mean, it is an electric car, so charging an electric phone ought to be simple. Sadly, my 2019 model 3 has an issue with its USB ports. (As many other model 3’s from around the same time do.) One that isn’t fixable for a reasonable price. The reasonable price being “free.” So, as a work around, I used a long lightning cable (I have an older iPhone) to bring power from the rear seat USB ports. Woo hoo! Unfortunately, they don’t make cables like they used to. Or they make them to fail too quickly. My latest cable died recently. I will, I guess, buy another long cable one day, if I keep the car. But in the meantime, I am using the battery pack that PV gave me. And it works pretty well. It is small enough that I can put it in my pocket with the phone when I am walking about. Yippee!

Today was a Monday. I slept a little later than I normally do. And got up and got out to do my one dashing shift of the day. It was a little bit above average in terms of earnings. A little long in terms of driving. Both due to a late offer from Door Dash to pick up from NAPA Geneva and deliver to NAPA Penn Yan. It is so weird how Door Dash seems to so frequently send me on a long dash just when I am getting ready to end my shift – even though I don’t have the shift scheduled to end for an hour after the time I am actually aiming for stopping. But I don’t mind. Long drives that are decently compensated make my shifts more pleasant!

Today was also a Wegman’s day. I didn’t have a lot to buy – eggs and bacon because, well, I like both of those items. I also bought makings for desert. SM gave me some of the Angel Food cake to eat. And some strawberry sauce she made. Which she says will go bad soon. So, I bought some chocolate ice cream and some whip cream to make the deserts more festive. I also bought two bottles of soda water. Unlike Ted Lasso, I like some bubbles in my beverages.

Tonight’s dinner will be leftovers from dinner with SM on Saturday. And a salad. Leaving lots of room for desert. Woo hoo!

Simply Saturday

Who knows what day it is really? I mean, does it really matter? Does the universe care what day it is? Who knows? I certainly don’t.

I was slow getting started today. I had some fun dreams that of course I can’t recall just now. Still, I like to have intense dreams. Makes me feel like my sleeping time isn’t wasted.

Eventually, I managed to raise my weary head. And I read. I am burning through this book. When I looked it up, it gave a synopsis that seemed to give the whole story away. But it didn’t actually. The story is much deeper and more nuanced and more tragic than the blurb that was written. I am enjoying it very much. And look forward to the other two books I have from the same author, Mary Doria Russell. This book is The Sparrow. Science fiction, btw.

I took no pictures today, so here’s one I took a few days ago

After I stopped reading, I decided I need to trim the bush/tree thingie that the city wanted trimmed. I took three tools to do the job: a hedge trimming pair of sheers, a strong pair of limb cutters and eventually my chainsaw. None of the branches were really cuttable by the sheers. The limb cutters did a couple decently. But the chainsaw was the hero of the afternoon. I hope it is enough for the city. I will ask them once I get a clear signal from HWS whether or not they are going to take responsibility for the sidewalk (that they installed).

Lunch next. Boring again. But tomorrows lunch will be more interesting…more later.

After lunch, I called J and had a lovely chat. She was doing much better. And I got a tentative invitation to Christmas. That would be nice. And it is looking like Thanksgiving will be a pleasant night at home. Deep fried Turkey (breast) here I come. Though maybe I will do a leg this time. We shall see.

More reading. As I said, I would like to get through this book, enjoyable as it is, and get to books about which I know nothing except that they were written by the same author.

Eventually it was time to head to SM’s house. I did a little bit of lugging – things to the basement etc. On the way to the Crepe place in Canandaigua, we talked about her adventures. We never did get to see the cool costume she made for one of her grandchildren. At the restaurant, which was not very busy for a Saturday night at 6 pm, we talked about my most recent trip. I really did have a good one.

We ordered way too much food. The brussels sprouts were great. My turkey crepe was good – but way too much food. And I also ordered a Boston creme dessert crepe – which I didn’t finish. I will eat these for lunch tomorrow, at least. Maybe Monday too! So much food! And good conversation!

Now I am home – I have done my duolingo and will now turn off my brain for a while. Happy Saturday!
