No Blue Skies Today!

We did not have much of this today

It is going to be fall soon. Not excited. I mean I like some of the stuff about Autumn. But I don’t like how dark it becomes here. The sun shines less frequently it seems. But we will somehow persevere.

I woke up late this morning. I mean, really late! I thought I went to bed at a reasonable hour and slept pretty decently. I heard my boarder leave for work around 7:50 am. Then I asked Siri what time it was (I don’t have to raise my head and look) and she said it was 9:28 am! Eeek! I like to be out dashing at 9:30 am at the latest. Otherwise I have to work later and that eats into my daily three hour lunch break! Can’t have that. So I hustled my butt and got out in a fairly timely fashion.

It was a two dash day. The second dash was close to ideal. I made my basic goal and did relatively little driving. Woo hoo! The first shift was ok. Though it ended weirdly.

My last dash was two dashes. The first was a delivery to the Colleges which went ok. Except that the app didn’t think I was in the correct place. Which I was. But that upsets the app and often (almost always) when this occurs and I am asked to get a PIN from the customer, the PIN doesn’t take and I can’t finish the order. Since I had a second order, and didn’t want their food to be any colder than it already was going to be, I called Dasher tech support. I was greeted by a new AI voice – it sounded like a young woman – maybe 17 to 23. And very realistic. I explained the problem and it asked if I wanted to complete the order. I said I did. She said she had done it and was there anything else. I said no. Went back to the app and found that the AI had completed the wrong order. She had completed the order I hadn’t delivered – which had no PIN request. Sigh. So I called back, eventually got a person and he fixed everything. Unfortunately (?) the order that had been mistakenly completed resulted in a refund to the customer and a request to me to dispose of the order in any manner I chose. I chose to eat the order.

It was ok. The person had ordered a Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger biggie bag – which includes a drink (they chose some coffee thing that I poured out), four nuggets, fries and the Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger. Which the customer asked for without bacon. WITHOUT BACON! They could have ordered the Jr. Cheeseburger deluxe which doesn’t have bacon and is $.50 cheaper. Sigh. I ate it anyway. I just hope that I don’t get sick from the meal.

I am home now. I have done some Duolingo. And written this scintillating blog post. Oh, and my depression is gone as well! Leftover Chicken Riggies tonight. I think I will still have one more meals worth of food from that container. Eeek!

Augustus for President: I called the IRS to ask them how to change the name of the company associated with my EIN. I was of course directed to a menu and when I got to my choice, a voice came on and said they were too busy and that I could try again tomorrow. If I really wanted to. I guess the cuts to the IRS are starting to show…I went to the website and read that I needed to send them a letter asking for the name to be changed. Which I have done. $.78 for a goddam stamp. Seriously? But at least I did something. Oh, and you can do something too: reply to my surveys! Please!

Who Let the Flies Out?

That’s weird. I was going to add today’s first shift dashing numbers – ok pay, terrible amount of driving – but it isn’t showing up in the app. Though the total looks correct. I am guessing it will fix itself at some point in the not too distant future. (It did.)

And I did forget to put the corkscrew in the car after all. Sigh. I guess it wasn’t as obvious as I thought it was. Though in my defense, I was in a bit of a hurry getting out of the door this morning. I like to start dashing at or before 9:30 am if I can.

Seen while dashing

My second dash wasn’t as bad as the first – still too many long distance rides for not enough money. And not enough rides overall. But I did ok financially. I also had a nice chat with a couple of people out at the outlet mall. One even said she would vote for me for President after I said I was running.

I decided to get some Greek food while I was out there. B was there. They were out of the beef skewers which is what I really wanted. I also had a hankering for some dolmades, so I asked for an order of those. She charge me less and gave me a couple extra dolmades! It pays to be nice to the nice!

I am home again. I did some work at lunch time. One thing I tried to do was add a PDF to a WordPress page. It didn’t seem to work. I will try tomorrow and ask their tech support how to do it. GR had the idea to put a PDF of the program up on the website in case people wanted a digital version or in case GLO ran out of printed programs. I am not stressing over it. (I might have figured it out…)

And it is that time of year again – we are having a fly convention in the kitchen. I have the back door screen in place, so that hopefully the flies will fly there, thinking they can get outside. And then I go back and let them out. I know I have let at least 20 out so far! I hope they don’t just come back in somehow. It does not seem like the number in the main kitchen is diminishing at all…later this month or early next month, it will be time for the bat to visit again. I wonder if my boarder will still be here. Sigh.

Since I didn’t get Greek food, I am going to have some leftovers. At lunch time today, I stopped at Burger King to get an order of their mozzarella fries, which were just mozzarella sticks, but thinner. And they weren’t all that great. Neither was the marinara sauce they gave to me to dip them in. Since I was there, I went ahead and bought one of their burgers. At lunch time, I only ate half. So I will have the other half for dinner, plus some fries and a salad to round out the meal. I ate all of the mozzarella fries at lunch time.

More thoughts on running (or whatever) for President – I will never be as excellent an orator as Obama. Nor as factually knowledgeable as Pete B. My plan at this point is to use something like the socratic method to get people on board with me. It might work. I guess we will have to see. I also plan to go to shopping malls and to churches to look for people to talk with. I know, after my “meet a million people” project – that I will not personally meet enough people to get me elected. But that’s ok. I will just do what I can do. Running will be fun!
